Well guys, I have yet another question for anyone who might be able to help.
With my old POS 1 MP camera, I could just take a pic and post it, and used ArcSoft Photo Studio for editing. My new camera is 5.2 MP, so they need to be downsized- but I cant figure it out. All I have now is Hewlett Packards Photo Smart software, and cannot figure it out. I have tried to reduce the size, down to like 200x130 pixels, and the pics still will not upload here. I have tried the preset settings for e-mail, blogs, and custom- none of which works. I then tried to reduce the resolution on the camera itself, then shrank the size, but they still come up 2000 something pixels.
I dont need a hosting site, but rather an editing program that will allow me to downsixe the pics and resolution. I d/l snapfish, but the editing tools are sparse. Im assuming Photo Bucket is the same, and just dont want to d/l and then delete a bunch of different programs to avoid software issues. Any ideas?
thanks,
Greg
Greg,
PhotoBucket doesn't download itself onto your HD. You access it with your browser, upload pics to it, then copy and past the "link" to your pic to the reply window in MTF. You can resize within PB. It's free and easy to do.
If you want to post as an "attachment" you need to get it small, 170kb I believe. Some do it in MS Paint IIRC, but your other software should work too. You might see if there is a forum for the soft you have. Google xxxx forum, where xxxx is the name of your software.
If you want, e.mail your pic to me and I will resize it and e.mail back to you.

Greg,
That's all I'm using for my camera and scanner. I use the "crop" feature for the car and tractor photos to reduce the photo down to just the subject I want to show. Then resize to say 600 X 480. After that I click "save as" and adjust the jpeg compression slider down a couple of notches from "High Quality" before clicking save. I think my camera is a 3MP so you may need to adjust the quality setting lower than me. I can post some screen shots if you need them.
I reduce the file size on mine before sending them to photobucket. Original size takes forever on dialup to upload.

Go buy Microsoft's software program called "Picture It". Inexpensive and will do anything you could ever want to do to a picture or at least anything you'd ever want to do to a pciture to post it on this site.

I got a better solution and it's FREE. DL Irfanview. sorrry I don't see the url right now. It's a great viewer with some editing capabilities. Reducing a pitures size and even color depth are only a couple clicks away.
You can view almost ank kind of file with this viewer. Many formats of pic, text, even Hex files.
I wouldn't be cought without it.
:ditto: :ditto: What Mickey said. Irfanview is a great program for viewing and a lot more... It's versatile, stable, upgraded and works great. It can do a lot more than most realize.

Sorry guys...wasnt on here at all yesterday. I am going to check out the irfanview thing. I looked at ArcSofts PS, and its like $70. OUCH!
Mark- I was wondering what the slider thing did. I tried backing it way down and it didnt seem to help a bit. Im sure it was due to operator error though. LOL I need to take a few misc. pics of nothing in general to trey and edit til I get it figured out. Now, alot of the pics I took for a purpose are all different sizes.
Thanks

Yeah, I done that too at first messing up a couple of show photos. But then it finally dawned on me to save the the modified pictures to a new file name to preserve the original photo. When you click "save as" just add a letter or number to the end of the name before the ".jpg".
Example:
Original file name IM000282.JPG
Save modified photo as IM000282a.JPG
I'm glad I'm not the only one to have those "Can't see the forrest for all the trees" moments. ;)

LOL, Mark. I told you guys I was not too computer literate. I really never thought of saving the originals, but then again, wouldnt know how to find the things anyway probably. I guess I could archive them, but again, I have some reading to do.
I just got so used to not only the photo editing software, but many other programs as well like CD burner and things. Theres still things on this computer that I have yet to see. So with the sudden change of software, and a different camera with different software, I cant see the forset OR the trees! :bonk:

Just stick with it, Greg. The best way to learn is to just tinker around with a given task like picture resizing or editing. Keep your prized pics in one area. Make a duplicate or a copy of a pic, and use the copy to experiment with. I like to keep the originals myself so a given pic has the best quality and biggest size, with the resized pic saved as a separate image.
Sometimes it is necessary to resize so you can post as an attachment on this site. Also, if you host a pic through a service like PhotoBucket, it's a good thing to resize your pics to be kind to the dial-uppers. It's amazing how good a properly compressed image can look when compared to the original.
Greg,
I would assume that your new, or even the old, camera came with a software to organize you pics. Putting them there is handy for accessing all your pics from a central location. I agree with Curt on keeping the originals, they come in handy when you want to post/print/edit. And, do these things with a copy.

PhotoBucket automatically resizes uploaded pics over 1Mb in size. PB can also generate a code to post "clickable" thumbnails that load fairly quickly for dial-uppers, yet each pic can be clicked on to open in full view.
Pics add so much to threads/posts, and like Curt said, just keep playing around and learn the program you are going to use on a regular basis...with copies! ROF

DAmn...I cannot believe it was 10 days ago that I last seen this. Sorry guys- just been busy lately and not had much extra time. Well, I have figured a little out about it, but still have a little to go. I have the editing, saving, archiving thing down, but I still lack a little in the resixing department. I never gave it much thought, as with the old one, I just took the pic, d/l it to the computer, and put it right in the post here.
Thanks again, and have a nice weekend!
