Hi all! Well, as promised, I have pics! Before and After. Now don't mind the mess that is still there and the paint the I messed up! lol We are going to repaint the walls soon and they are going to be all one color. Now, I think the guys screwed up with the caulking they used. I painted the mounlding with latex indoor paint. When I went to paint over their caulking where the nails went in - it was like water and oil up there.....now I don't know what to do? Do I try a different type of paint? It needs to be finished that's for sure!

Are you using a latex paint? My guess is that they used a siliconized caulk instead of "painter's putty" or true latex caulk. You might have to try and get the stuff out and replace it with the right kind. You can try a primer first, but if it doesn't work, you may have to redo the putty.

I don't know if it was mentioned but I would make a call to the carpenters and ask them what kind they used and follow it up by asking if it can be painted and what kind of paint. They should have used caulking that is home owner friendly. You may have to get a product like Killz. This may save you the time of removing that caulk. You could also lightly sand over the caulking to remove the smears that covered a much larger area than should have been. If you do this you will reduce the area to the size of the original hole, so if you do paint over it you will have a much smaller area to worry about. Check with a good hardware or paint store about this problem. Usually there is a good fix out there that will save you a lot of time. But, you must ask the right people. hth. Good luck. Which ever way you choose or have to go, get started on it and you will find it not to be as big a problem as it now looks. Hth's again. oslo
