Anyone used plastic welders? I'm looking for feedback on airless vs air plastic welders.
Thanks,
Mike

What are you welding? I have never used a plastic welder and now you're asking yourself, "What the **** is "USN_ED" answering this for then? :fing20: Well, I'll tell ya!! I have used a soldering iron for repairing plastic or plastic type items, i.e., cracks in heater cores, radiator over-fill bottles, tractor fuel tanks, rejoining mouting tabs to aforementioned items, and several other things. Just my two-cents. There was a thread on this very topic last year sometime in the "Off Topic" section I believe. You might try looking for it in the archive section.

I've had decent success using a soldering iron as well because it was all I had. I've cut narrow strips from laundry soap bottles, and other plastic items to use as "welding rods".

this may have been the thread ED mentioned. BTW i sold the tractor before getting the tank back but the new owner picked it up and its still holding up great.

I bought a plastic welder from Harbor Freight Tools and it's a thumbs down. I think I paid $30 for it. I have seen them advertised for $300. You get what you paid for. I tried welding the discharge shute on the Husky for the chip and vac, ended up putting a piece of sheet metal to back it up and filled the crack with plumbers epoxy putty, smoothed it out a little sanding, some black spray paint, viola good as new.

This cheapo machine came with three differant rods. ABS PVC or PP so unless you are welding one of those you are SOL. :00000060: Plus you need an aircompressor but thats no problem because every body has two or three of those
