I'd need a second stay in the hospital if I got a bill like that! :00000060:
We don't have any insurance (can't afford it!), so we just don't get sick! :fing20:

Galen, that was the first time in 61 years that i went to a hospital!

I have been with FedEx for 15 years and our med. insurance was FREE up until 2 years ago.. I now pay $24 a week(before taxes) for coverage for me and the wife.

If i did not have the insurance, i may have opted to go to the county hospital and let them fight me for the bill later.

Hospitals have a license to steal. The bill for my life changing event and subsequent open heart surgery was astounding...totalling in excess of $100,000 and the bills are still coming in almost 2 years later.

I had to have my neck pinned (ruptured disks removed and bone/metal supports put in) about 3 years ago. The surgery lasted about 2 hours and I was in the hospital overnight. $50,000+. Just seems crazy to me, but it's better than the alternative...

I almost forgot...My defibrillator was recalled in March..I had to go in for outpatient surgery to have it switched out....they billed my insurance company $30,000...I cried foul...told them that it was a defective unit and the manufacturer should be liable for the cost of replacement....WRONG!! That's not how it works in the medical billing world....WHAT A RACKET!!!

I have had 3 micro operations on my left ear in the last 2 and half years and they were all done on out-patient basis.

Operation One, was a bone replacement in the ear. Total cost was $5,598.00

Operation Two, was a skin graft on half the ear drum. Total Cost was $4,800.00

Operation Three, was another skin graft on the restof the left ear drum Total Cost $3,960.00

I paid all of Ten dollars on my Co-Pay. So a total of $14,358.00 for the problems that I have had on a regular basis on the left ear. This does not include having to have another tube put in the eardrum because I could not drain fluid from the inner ear and all the follow-ups that I have had before or after having these operations or any of the bills for the doctors visits with the specialist.

I had a heart valve replacement over ten years ago and thought it was out of sight when I saw that bill slightly over $12,000 but now realize that the cost is probably double or even triple.
