Hey Everyone,

I found a hay wagon the other day, drug it home yesterday. It is a John Deere brand. It is in pretty good shape, except for the decking. That's not a big deal to me, there is a mill up the street that has real nice rough cut hemlock. I am looking for some info on it, can anyone tell me where to find the model number, and maybe how old it is?

My Daughter likes it, I hitched it up to my '51 8N and took her for a ride around the neighborhood. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v142/stumpy462n/haywagon1.jpg

Stumpy....nice find. Look for any old paint left on the "reach" that portion that connects thr front axles to the back axles. Deere sometimes painted the numbers in yellow over the green paint. Also try looking behind the front "axle" (can't remember the correct name right now) but there might be a metal tag riveted there. My guess it is from the '50's.

You got a steal Stumpy!! JD makes the best wagons going, they follow like a shadow, even a 60 MPH on the highway! Our family are IH red through and through, but we had to get a JD wagon. :fing32:

I agree with JDA, from the look of the hubs I would say somewhere in the 50s.

Your a lucky man...I've been looking for an "old hay wagon" all summer and have come up empty handed. Some that I seen were in worst shape than that and they wanted over $500 for them. They're still sitting but I think they just don't want to sell them.

Check for the tag behind the bolster. Alot of running gears were made here in Colchester Il by the Yetter manufacturing co. David Bradily ,John Deer ,ect. Paint bldg decided the brand, but they make some of the best running gears that was ever made in the late 40s ,50s 60. In the early 90s they made the wheels for J.D.,s rotary-hoes. They make a lot of no-till equipment now sold all over the world.
