Want to see a new world record plowing event? go to the I&I ANTIQUE TRACTOR & GAS ENGINE CLUB site and follow the half century of farming link. We were there to see it in person and it was awesome!!!

Based on how sharp the men are putting these gangs together; and the top quality engineers; I don't think We are very far off from seeing a hundred bottoms or more at work; just a few more engines; what do You think?

It would really be neeeeetto to see 100. The 60 took out about 80' in one pass , one can't picture the size unless you are there. I was real lucky at getting to see this one in action!! They made the record book, and will get a certificate to make it official. sonny

Yes Sir; The biggest gang I personally have witnessed is a 110 Case at Pawnee OK pulling 12 16s in clay soil; that plow was no match for that big engine.. They had the gang buried and had to stop to remove an obstacle; and when that big engine took off You could not tell any difference in the engine from a load and no load.. I said then they needed 4 to 6 more bottoms; man what a beautiful sight and sound that was.. I sort of envy You for the sights there that You saw for that made the 110 seem somewhat puny..

Sonny I was at Chaunute also.Problem was the plow was skimming along. It was barley in the ground and at times it was not in the ground. There were a lot of people there and many were ROF that scratching could be considered plowing.

When we were there ,it was in the ground plenty deep. At one point ,we heard they had some sort of problem, so when you saw it, that may have it. At one point, a lot of people left thinking it was over. sonny

I was there the second day.We looked at the plowed area from day 1 and thought WTF.Then we were there and walked behind day 2's plowing. They started and stoped to adjust the rig of chains from the tol bar to the plow.It seemed to take forever. Then it went and we walked with it the full length.

I wonder if they will ever show it on RFD TV?There was a film crew there above it in a basket suspended from a crane.Thing might have went better depth wise if it was not so dry here at the time. The ground was hard from no rain.

What an experience; looks like the guys that rigged up the trace chains had quite a chore; sure would like to see a diagram on how this was tied in; mebbe You will be there when these guys shoot for a hundred bottoms. It would be worth the thousand mile drive to see that.. What type of soil were they working in?

The soil at the site is deep, black ,hard, heavy, and very rich. I may be able to come up with a chain layout, will see if I can contact a club friend or two. We were I&I members about 10 years ago, and stay in touch with some of them still! thanks; sonny

My dad gets a antique tractor magazine....can't remember the name, think it is Oliver though. In that magazine it shows 60 plows being pulled and the story behind it.....the article says it was predominately Oliver plows but they couldn't find enough to make 60 so they used some deere plows to finish it out....is this the one you guys saw?

JDA:: Pretty sure the 60 bottom plows were pulled by 3 -110 Case steam traction engines in Rolag Mn....Will try to find the page...Byron :fing32:

Yeah, that is the one....I'm pretty sure, wish I could put my hands on the article. But the plows were my question, the article said they were mostly Oliver plows and a few John Deere's....I'll have to look for it too in a couple of weeks when I can.

These are pictures from the Rollag pull in 03. I didn't see the actual pull, this was the day after. I didn't take any pictures of the plowed ground, but frankly, there was a whole lot of chicken scratching goin on. Not important though really, it's all just for fun. If you're going to have a real record, it would have to be done side by side under the same conditions.

Thats COOL!!!, it amazes me what those old steam tractors will pull.
5 or 6 years ago at the fair, during the tractor pulls they brought out a Case, Not sure what model. They had just finished pulling the big Super farm stock tractors. The sled was sitting there where thay had stopped the last tractor with the weight transfer sitting right at the top.

They hooked on to it with that Case and drove right away like the sled wasn't even back there. IT wasn't fast but it was moving.
