: Ford 2000 or Ford 2110 LCG ?

Hey guys. I am looking for a tractor to brush hog my 7 acre field a few times a year. I have a friend that wants to sell me a 1971 Ford 2000 with a 3 cyl gas engine for $3000. It's in good shape and runs excellent. I also found a 3 cyl gas Ford 2110 LCG for $1950 that was used on a golf course to pull a large gang mower. Both tractors run and look fine. Both have unknown hours. No smoke or oil leaks so far. The biggest difference I see on the tractors is that the Ford 2000 has the big Ag tires and the 2110 has smaller balloon type turf tires. The 2110 has the 8/2 transmission. Do these tractors have the same engine size and frame?

Any opinions on which one to consider? I could not find too much info on the 2110 LCG other than its used for mowing grass.

I went and drove the Ford 2000 today. It is a 1970 no power steering, 4 speed tranny, PTO is not live. It has 3000 hrs on it. It runs excellent and seems to run strong. It has good sheet metal other than a dent on the front grill and one fender has some rust. I did notice that there are a few spots on the engine that have a slight oil leak (oil pan area). Its not dripping but you can tell it leaks a little. I am considering this one because I know the guy selling it. There are no implements with it. Is $3000 a fair price on this? This would be my first tractor.

Yes, fair price. I think you'd be happier with a diesel in good condition with PS though but will usually cost more, but will not go down in value. Most in the 30-50 yo range may require more repairs/maintenence at this point though easy to work on with standard parts available. You might catch a less than 20yo low-mid hour JD, NH, MF, etc at a good price if you keep searching. You could also get the Ford as it will sell for at least that later if gas is not too high at the time. Big difference in consumption. Watch tire condition, they have gone up last few years.

The Ford 2000 for $3000 seems like a fair price.

Live PTO is a nice feature to have for a brush hog though.

Well my budget is around $3000 for a decent tractor. Live PTO is nice but I can install a over run coupler to help with that. It seems the Ford 2000/3000 is about right in size and price. if there are other specific models (brand does not matter) that are similar let me know and I will watch for them too. Maintenance is not a huge deal for me. I have a well equipped shop and I have no issues working these as long as I have the shop manual.

I saw a gas Ford 3000 with power steering and live PTO go for $3500 on craigslist this morning. i called too late!

I would go with the 2000 over the 2110 for bush hog. I would not overlook the 660/661 and 860/861. They came with live pto. These are earlier models that came with the 4cyl. PS was an option on these and nice to have. They are a good value and sell for a little less than the newer models.

3000$ is still a good price even for the plain jane 2000.

however.. 1950$ is an amazing price for the other as well.

for hogging.. it's get the ag chassie model though.

More info on the 2110 LCG. 6334 hours, Power Steering, good tires and sheet metal. Live PTO. 8/2 Tranny & 3 point hitch.

It really makes no difference to me since I will mostly mow with it. Possible some dragging cut down trees. I doubt I will ever plow. The price sure is attractive.

I'd be leaning toward the 2110, just for the PS alone. My left arm gets quite the work out on my lil' Ford with no PS.

dang.. ps and live pto... not to mention the 8x2 tranny is one of fords best crash boxes as well..

good choices of ground speeds ( though reverse is still fast fast or slow slow .. )

if you don't need the clearance.. the 2110 is the better of the 2 machines.. cheaper too. and heck.. you can always sacrifice some ground speed and change tires/rims and get a lil clearance.

arouind here.. 3500$ gets you a beat to heck 3 cyl.. IMHO.. both of those are good prices.. witht he 2110 being a better overall machine..

The older Ford 4000's (mid 60's) are/were also decent. The 4000 series then were newer versions of the 840's and came in both gas and diesel, had one of each. Gas had PS and live PTO. Went up in value from 85-92. Both sold for nearly 6K with bushog in 92.

to be precise, the 4 cyl 63/64 ford 4000 was an updated 801 ( or 901 ) ( 58-62 ) you could get them with 4 spd or the 5 spd live pto/dual clutch, as well as in row crop models with narrow or wide fronts. 801+ would have had charge indicator lamps and no amp meters.. etc. gas gauge available onthe later models.. etc as well.

the 840 was a 4 speed from 55-57. no gas gauge, etc., and had an ammeter.

I went and looked at a 3rd tractor today. It was another Ford 2000 1973 with about 2500hrs at a local dealer. It has a 6/2 Tranny with a PTO over run clutch built in. I was not aware they built them that way. It also has power steering and a FEL however it is complete garbage (rusted out bucket & leaky cylinders). Its worth scrap weight IMO. The tractor has nice rubber and the body is in good shape and has remote hydraulics which is a huge deal for me. Its the best one so far that I have seen and it runs like clock. He was asking $3500 so I offered $3000 but he would not budge. i ended up walking away so I could think about it over night. I don't know much about the 6/2 tranny but it seemed to work fine. The carb did not say HOLLEY so it might be a zenith too.

decisions.....decisions.... I'll have to sleep on this one.

My 2-4000's were both 4 speeds plus reverse, the gas was a '64, don't recall year on the diesel.
