built from 1914-1916 this was hart-parrs first lightweight tractor. it was a 2 cylynder 2 stroke to back up the engine was run backwards

You had to stop the engine and restart it backwards to backup????
you cut the spark until the engine almost came to a stop move the timing lever and unground the mag. similar to the old maytag engines just on a larger scale.

I think that some really old tractors didn't even have a reverse, am I right? I guess you'd have to be careful not to park it going downhill in front of a wall or fence, or you'd be stuck there.
My great grandfather had a Hart-Parr, I don't know what model it was because it was sold long before I was born, but it was a bigger one with a roof, might have been a 30-60.
