I just bought a HT 23 .. never had one before. If I can figure out how to attach a photo, would someone maybe know what the black knob is sticking out of the rear fender ?
I have not picked it up yet and its driving me nuts trying to figure it out.
Ok well maybe I can post the photo tomorrow .. when the wife shows me how too.
Any guess without seeing the photo what it could be ??
Thanks

I have not picked the tractor up yet .. I assume they are 12X12X26 AG tires like the ones on my HT 20s.
I will see for sure on Saturday when I pick it up.. I got a great deal on it .. it comes with a power angle plow, a mower deck, three point hitch and a pto driven water pump.. so now I can drive around and pump out basements the next time it rains for thirty days and thirty nights.
I have seen LOTS of Bolens tractors and attachments .. I have never seen a pto powered water pump. Must be a home made set up ..Or maybe Bolens did make such a thing .. I guess when I see it I will know.
Thanks

My Guess is ?? it may be the high low selector ?? I know some if not all HT 23s have a hi/low range hydro driven rear. However I have no idea how the operate.

Are you talking about the seat adjuster lever on the left side under the seat? Or that other black thing that appears to be under the right side of the seat? The thing on the right may be an illusion from the angle of the pic or an owner added feature such as a cup holder or something. I checked the parts manual in the sticky and there is nothing shown on that area of the rear fender.

The black knob ... I thought the hole where it is sticking out was for a 12 volt receptacle for the 12 volt trimmer Bolens used to make .. however now this one has what looks to be a pull knob. Its going to drive nuts till I pick it up sat am.. I will be sure to post what it is once I figure it out.

Ken,
Congrat’s on the HT-23.
That black knob sticking out the back of the left fender must be some
kind of modification made by a prior owner. I see he also cut a hole
in the hood so you can add fuel without lifting the hood, so somebody
has been doing homemade upgrades to this tractor.
Maybe the guy added a nitrous oxide kit to it for an extra boost when he
was using his plow. Pull the knob and kick in another 30 or 40 HP !!!!

I kinda figured it was a home made item.. Yes on the hole in the hood ... we all know just how hard it is to open the hood to add fuel ... ROF .. it may take an extra 10 seconds.
I hope the knob controls the turbo boost option.
Can I bring the tractor to your house ?? I would like to look as good as your HT23 ... maybe even patch the hole in the hood ?? I could pay you in small unmarked bills...

And she is a good one ..came with new Battery, nice new exhaust pipe & muffler, new spare fuel pump ( $65.00 recipt) just had new plugs, wires and coil installed. And a box full of small new and used parts.....
I spent 3 or 4 hours cleaning off the crud from the motor and hydro. Changed the oil and filter, installed new brake pads, installed the missing motor tins ( guy said it over heated ) with half the tins off no wonder.
The hydro oil was CLEAN and it had a new filter, and believe me it works well. Stronger then all my large frames ( except the 1886 )
The black knob mystery is solved... what it is for you ask ?? It pulls a small block of steel in place to hold up the 3 point hitch in its full up position .. smart idea who ever made it .. takes the pressure off the small lift cylinder when what ever is attached to the 3 point is in its full up. Cant drift down untill the knob is pulled back out..
I dont know if Bolens made them this way .. It sure looks like it belongs with the 3 point hitch. I am not sure if it is Bolens or not.
The mower deck was in very good shape, the snow/dirt plow was like new .. just surface rust in some places .. no welds .. no dents or bends .. I have five or 6 of these plows and the new one is the best I have seen in my 5 years of collecting large fram stuff.
The water pump was a Kohler pump ..made to mount to the front pto.. it is small .. but I bet it will move some water .. I dout I will ever have a use for it .. so I wont ever know.
I think this tractor is going to get a Johnson loader on it ...
As soon as I can get it half as good looking as AEGT5000s HT23 .. I will post a photo. :fing32:

Ken,
You are correct. That knob and rod were part of the 18086 Bolens 3 point hitch.
As you said, the knob and rod were used to lock the hitch in the up position.
Saves wear and tear when transporting heavy attachments. Sorry I didn’t catch
that when you first posted, better late than never. :fing20:
Sounds like you found a real winner. Not only with the tractor but also with the
attachments. Isn’t it AWSOME how strong these things are in low range.
I look forward to seeing it after you clean it up.
