Are there any massey any massy users or owners as members? I am guessing that we may have not retreived those lost souls from the old tf.... if we have please respond with your massey tales or reminisce of the days when a tractor was a tractor. Feel free to show your pics as we all like to see tractors of all kinds but really like the old masseys and stories behind them...

Anyone doing a repair or complete restore jump in and let us also enjoy your pride and joy...

Subject: Alleyooper
Has anyone who happens upon this thread ever emailed or have another site that he may be on? I do remember him being a keeper of Bee's. Any information would surely be appreciated..

Hi All,

We have a 1959 MF ( FE ) 35. We are in the midst of rebuilding a Perkins A 3.152, and once the rebuild is done, we are swapping out the trusty old Standard Motors 23c diesel and putting in the Perky. Don't worry boys, I will provide pics as we go!!

Take care
Will

Welcome to the massey section Will.

Well I will be waiting on this swap as it should improve all around performance.

Hi,

I keep hearing how it will improve BIGTIME, and frankly I can't wait either. Our 23c never let us down, but finding parts is getting harder and harder everyday. I hear the Perky is a fuel miser, and I can't wait for that, because our 23c is a miser too, and I am curious as too how little fuel the Perky will use. Also can't wait too see just how easy the Legendary Perk will start when it is -50c outside. That is when we did some research and decided to do a conversion. The shortblock is together, now we are cleaning up fasteners to continue the assembly.

I wiull keep everyone posted.

Take care

Will

Will, we run all masseys and they start quickly when temp reach down to the low thirties into the twenties... As far as fuel we seem to burn less thanthe JDs and a few others... We have just sidelined a MF 240 w/ 14800+ hours and it is still runs well just a lot of hard hours...

Well I must say I've missed being able to talk about tractors with real tractor people. I sort of laugh Ya'll doing a internet search for me, then to top it off I haven't been on garden guides for over a year surprized I'm still listed there to tell ya the truth.
They had a section for playing a game of guess the mystery plant. Another section for posting garden pictures. I used the picture post section a lot, all of Kares garden pictures of 2002 and 2003 were on there. Then some one moved the game down to the picture section, I had a fit that the section read member images but got over ruled. Since I didn't like to post pictures and they were gone in half a day due to the game pushing them down and to the next page, I pulled all our pictures and left.
Been serching for a place to post Kares garden pictures every since.
I stumbled on a way to have a forum with out a big out lay of money.
ROF So we have this brand new garden forum looking for members. http://alycarouselbutterfly.forumsplace.com/index.php

I am so glad I wanted to post an update on my new five month old chain saw at Abby guides formerly ther best lawn mower where I have been a member for a very long time.
I get there and the first name I see is Joe's, whom I e mailed about not being able to get on the old tractor forum. I also saw Jodies name there.

Hey guys eat your heart out. I have so many old tractors because of my wife. I just wanted an old antique Massey to pull. In the search I kept finding models like my dad used to own and telling her about them. One day she said why don't you just collect them? I started then. She can spot a Messy fender in a fence row over growen with weeds, trees, and vines at 200 yards and has 4 Masseys of her own.

Really I like all tractors a LOT even those green and yellow ones I tell jokes about. There has to be one that is bunt of all jokes ya know.
JD's are painted green and yellow so they can hide in the grass and dandeloins when a real tractor goes by.

I have a 1961 Allis Chalmbers D17 I like a lot.
A 1965 Ford 5000 which I also wouldn't part with
A Farmall H year unknowen as yet but think mid 40's
All 20 of Kare and my masseys.
Garden tractors from a old 1950's two wheeled walk behind from Monkey wards my father in law bought new.
Now that will date ya, when you could buy a monkey wards twin row new.

http://www.mytractorforum.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Glad you liked that one :congrats: . When you tell it to a JD owner though remember to either duck fast or be a fast runner. For some reason those JD fellows are a bit on the touchy side.
Hey some one needs to get my cheseey grin guy in the gallery. I'm linking him now ya know.

>I have a 1961 Allis Chalmbers D17 I like a lot.<

Hi Alleyyooper
I had a D17 for 20 years when I had the farm in SW Pa...that is a nice piece of equipment. My father and I had that down to nuts, bolts, and pieces for a rebuild.

Had the big tow behind mower, 8' rear blade, 4 gang disc, cultipacker, and a 2 bottom plow for it... I always thought the adjustable wide front and rear wheels was a killer idea...as was the 2 speed hand clutch. One time I dug out from under 48" of snow with only a rear blade when the rest of the world was stopped.

The only thing I didn't like was when the mower break-away driveshaft let loose if you overload the blades and the mad scramble for the foot clutch to recover.

I was cutting a valley bottom when I had no business being in there...a swamp grass mat over 3' of primordial muck... and did the foot recover thing only to spin the wheels by accident and sunk it to the belly...I mean right NOW...had to be pulled out from that...funny thing is after not learning that lesson properly the first time, I did it again the following year...the farmboy who saved me both times was looking at me in disbelief the second time...tho he was gentleman enough not to say anything to my face. He was also the most talented operator I've ever seen in real life. I was in death territory with 2000 lbs. and he crabwalked a 12,000(?) lb. backhoe in to get me out.

Another time I was idling down a widowmaker hill with the mower running in 3rd/high range (I know it was stupidity) and it popped out of gear on me...mad dash for the brakes...my foot only hit the left one... spun me hard left into the ugly and almost over an embankment.

It was that machine that taught me (humbled me into) a healthy respect for man eating machinery. I was real fond of that D17...tho I was in backwoods Ford territory and not universally appreciated.

modre, I really liked the story you told in your post. If I were a writer I would write a bunch of short storys of farm life like yours and try to get them published. Some day we will all be gone the only thing left will be the old restored iron but the stories will die because people change them and forget them.
I have all my fingers and toes arms legs and never broke a bone on the farm nor got scars from farm machinery because my dad was a stickler for safty. Never for any reason get off the tractor with it still running was one big rule that if broken and caught was an automatiac trip to the wood shed where the lesson was ROF driven home.
I have a fondness for the smell of fresh plowed feilds and of all things fresh spread manure. My Kare is none to happy when we go past a farm and I rool down the window to take in the full load rather than the bit that creeps in ROF ROF .
