Just ordered a new LX4 shredder yesterday and it is supposed to be in this afternoon. Its just not right that a person looks forward to getting something that is going to create more work. :bonk:

JD,
Is this your first RFM? Just wondering how it feels to use one of those (I've never used one). Do you have to take Advil first for your neck aches?
Cheers

JDF, it is my first rotary cutter. I have used my former employers rear mount cutter many times, however they were a lot bigger and on bigger tractors. I just thought a 4' would fit my roadsides and ditches better than his HX10. Besides, it is another piece of equipment for my tractor.

When you have had a few hours of use on it, let me know what you think!

JD, I now have about 20 hours on the LX4. Aside from the fact that it does not lift very high, I am totally pleased with the operation. I was able to get into some places that had not been mowed for several years. While on the subject, it never ceases to amaze me about the amount of power this little diesel puts out. I was mowing some thick grass that was about four foot tall and the little diesel just hammered away. Anyway, I am totally satisfied with the whole unit (tractor and rotary cutter). :fing32:

My experiences with both the Tractor and LX-4 have been positive too.
Question for JDL100: When you engage the PTO with the LX-4 connected, does there seem to be a good amount of driveline lash? Maybe it's just the blades swinging out initially, but it gives a pretty good bang sometimes. I keep forgetting to ask my dealer about this.

Thanks for the update, and I agree, these diesels sure put out a whole bunch of attitude!

Yes Mow, it seems like gear lash but I believe that it is the blades swinging out. I ordered my LX4 with the shear bolt instead of the slip clutch option. The first time I engaged the PTO, I thought it was going to shear the bolt, but it didn't. That four foot blade takes a little power to start turning from a dead stop.

Have fun with your new mower! If you ever get caught up, or bored, you can bring it and your ditch mower over here to Tecumseh and play!

What I learned from using my rotary cutter when starting it was to slow down the engine speed on my tractor to around 1,000 RPM and then start the PTO and then increase slowly the engine speed, I stopped getting the bang that I had and smoother engagement. Each tractor has different engine speeds and you might kill the engine as you experiment with the slower speeds but you won't hurt the tractor any until you figure out the best speed.

I follow what the manual says, and that is engaging the PTO at 1400 RPM which is about as low as the throttle adjustment allows.
JDL100, I have the sheer bolt option, too. Haven't busted one yet!
