This club has an annual contest for folks that enjoy making scale models of engines. Some very interesting projects here:

Thats pretty cool. I seen something awhile back about miniature scaled down replicas of like a chrysler hemi or something. They looked real, and was VERY expensive. They also had a video of a 32 Ford roadster and a 427 Cobra with the engine in it.
It would be cool to have that kind of knowledge and the machinery to make things like that. Id like to have a Boss 429 and a 427 SOHC.

Some of those models are really something! I couldn't even dream up that kind of work. Can you imagine the time and patience to build some of those models? Wow!

Fusion, I posted something about miniature engines sometime back. There are 2 groups in the PNW that specialize in miniatures and mini-reproductions. Can only think of one of these groups right now and that is P.R.I.M.E. If I recall correctly the acronym stands for Pacific Rim International Miniature Expo. Their annual show is coming up real soon and is usually held in Eugene Or. Have seen miniatures so small that some components have to be looked at under a microscope. Have seen a running model of an engine so small the foot print of the base was about the size of a small box of matches. Maybe 3/4 x 1.5
For any threadhead, going to one of these shows is a great treat.

Sorry Mickey- I use the "active topics" thing and this thread got away from me. That would be cool to see. I looked for awhile to find the website of the engines I was talking about. I remember they were not real fast in the 32 or the Cobra, but they were very impressive. Evem with RC nitro engines, there is alot of design there. The little piston, rod and wrist pin look very weak, but will turn over 30,000 RPM. Think of that at .5" stroke. Each revolution, the piston would travel 1", which is 30K inches, which is 2,500 feet- or 140' shy of a 1/2 mile.

Greg, I did a little looking and if you do a search on "Pacific Rim International Engineering Expo" you can find a few links with some pictures. In my search I ran across some info reporting that Eugene and Portland have combined into G.E.A.R.S
Here is a link to this yrs show with some nice pics. http://216.197.105.191/index.html

These guys take their model making seriously. Lot of equipment Co's are at the shows as well. Miniture NC mills, lathes and have even seen someone bring in a mini cam grindig machine they made. A few yrs ago there was a few guys from Japan reporting on the show for a back home publication.
One of the nicest models I've seen was a mini radial aircraft engine maybe 18" in dia. Have seen a couple of these and if my memory serves me right, one was a multibank P&W model.

It's neat what some guys can do with small workings. My tools are chop saw, cutting tourch, welder, and a 7" angle grinder. sonny
