This mower is a 40's Gravely reel mower. Needs a little work. The belts are gone, and has not been sarpened in a LONG time. It should be fun to fix up, and will be perfect for my old '44 L

Played around with it a little today. I need to get belts for it. I picked two up, but there two small. Do you have any idea what the size should be? I got 24" but only 1/2" wide, and they are two narrow for the pulleys. I think with a wider belt, 24" would be good.

I also spent some time with a can of PBlaster. Freeing up a lot of the peices. I did get it to turn, but turns hard. I got to pump some greese in there also to get things moving.

Paul- give me a day or two. I don't know the belt info off the top of my head. The Antram catalog lists them for $10 but gives no sizes. It is my understanding that getting reel mower parts is not easy. Only one shop in the south somewhere has parts for them so I am told. The reel that I have worked when I bought it and I have not had to refurb it. - Kris :rauch10:

Well I was moving stuff around and came across this in the shed. Of corse I have still done nothing with it, but hope to this summer. I would not mind finding a a set of gang mowers realy. Does anyone know if the side mowers fit on any center mower, or were the ones that worked with the wing mowers special? Also I know there were a few diferent styles of reel mowers, were the wings interchangable?

Any other info on these reels would be great!!!

Paul, I will post the belt number tomorrow, I have the same mower in the garage, this is the first real mower and has no point of hook up for wings, there was an adaptor made later that went on the neck close to tractor for wing mowers

Sorry it has taken this long to get back with the numbers but I gotem now-----Good Year Insta->Power No. 85250. The breakdown of the # means it is 25 inches long and 5/8 inch wide. Hope this gets you cutting grass with it.

Looks like fun! Good catch. My daughter at college has a townhouse and I bought her a little push mower for the 500 sq. ft. of grass she has. She laughed when she saw it, didn't realize they ever made such things. She calls it her Amish lawnmower.

Can you see what the original color was on your mower, mine looks to have been brown or bronze, I took it to a Gravely Mow-In and was ask why I had it this color as all newer mowers were silver. Chrysler engine enamel is a real close match, don't remember the name but can look.

I almost think it was silver, but might have been repainted. I know its a early one, becouse its not one of the ones that you can reverse to shrpen.

If you can't reverse it then it is the first model the same as mine. I will try to fine a picture of one of this type with the hookup below the PTO for wing mowers.
