Hi,

I'm relatively new to the forum, and I don't understand the term "gray" as it applies to CUT's.

Anybody want to enlighten me?

'GRAY" Market tractors are make overseas, Chinese mostly. They do not have name recognition, and most are basic machines. Some people love them, I have never owned one, most likely because the right deal has not crossed my path.

I've heard this term a lot. It was actually applied to japanese tractors.

Basically, a tractor which was never intended for the US market for whatever reason, was refurbished somewhere and shipped to the USA used.

Kubota has a warning on their site regarding gray market tractors.

I grey market item is one which was sold new in one country & exported used to another country. There was major tractor dealer in Illinois that leased tractors to local farmers in the spring & then shipped them Australia. There was a tariff on new equipment, but not on used. These would be grey market tractors in Australia.

As a result of these safety issues and in order to protect the "Yanmar" trademark and reputation, Yanmar does not support gray market Yanmar®-brand tractors, excavators, wheel loaders and carriers and will not knowingly supply replacement parts for gray market units. There is also no warranty from Yanmar for these used units which are present in the U.S. without Yanmar’s consent or authorization.
