We are in a melt & freeze situation every day now. Nights get below freezing days can get into 50's.

In the morning the cross country skate skiing is excellent. On the trails or just skating through the trees & fields. I've been out for 2-3 hours every morning for the past week with at least another week or two possible.

With afternoon temps getting into the 50's and close to 60, biking has been great also. Have to stick to the roads, since the trails and woods are all still packed up with snow. I don't really like biking on the roads, but I will if that's all I can get. I have a road bike but choose to use a mountain bike for my outings.

Just yesterday I skied for 3 hours in the morning - went to work - then biked with my brother-in-law for 3 hours in the evening. Skied for 2 more hours this morning and pulled my 2 year old son behind my bike in a trailer for 2 hours this afternoon.

Yesterday's ski had an injury to a friend of mine. We were going fast down an icy hillside throught the woods when he got twisted up and fell. Hit his head hard. All sc***** up from the icy snow. He couldn't remember anything from that day, so we took him to the hospital. Scans of his head indicated not too much to worry about but he can't ski or bike for a couple of weeks. His memory started coming back, but only to about 10 minutes before the crash. Still can't remember what happened. He was out for about 2 minutes before I could wake him up off the trail.

Hey if 2-4 inches of wet snow freezes overnight...sounds like good spring skiing conditions to me. The key is freezing up solid though. It only takes about 1/2 inch of frozen slush to keep a ski gliding - possibly less.

Some of the thin areas I ski on really push the limits of the ski season.
