I am very happy mowing ocne a week with this set up. Granted, I've only got three mowings in with it at my main house. I was definitely pushing things pretty hard when I mowed the tall grass down south and I would NOT recommend doing it.
Billy Bob: my 'bota is rated at 13 HP at the PTO. I believe the engine is 19 HP. I did a bunch of reading before I decided I would look for a 72" deck. The PTO does spin up the blades, and the engine definitely notices it, a bit more smoke than normal and even more smoke when you get into some thicker/taller grass. Some of the stuff I was mowing Sunday morning when I made the second pass was almost too thick even in first gear. I wouldn't recommend mowing what I did mow with the deck, but it did it. If your Ford is a diesel and you keep your yard reasonably short, I think a 72" could work well for you. I'm looking forward to being able to head down south with the 'bota and mow around that house after a couple more mowings and not have to spend a whole lot of time cutting grass. I have other projects that require the tractor down there
One big warning is weight! I think this deck weighs in over 600 pounds. With the loader, the front tires almost get airborne when I lift the deck with the 3-pt. The ONLY reason I lifted the deck was to adjust something, I never tried transporting the deck raised, always raised it with the tractor stationary. I won't do it! I have no ROPS, and even if I did I wouldn't want to try and see how strong it is!
I mowed my 1/2 acre yard last night, the second complete mowing with the 72". It does a REALLY nice job! This week I need to get the spindles apart and get them lubed up, I may touch up the blades with the grinder a bit too as I chewed through quite a few branches down south. I don't think that deer squat dulls blades too bad, does it?
