just bought an old ford disc harrow model 205. it has a bearing out on one of the gangs. Is it hard to replace and where can I find a replacement. Thanks any info is appreciated
Try your New Holland dealer, or get the old one out, read the number, and see if you can get it crossed to a new number. Any good parts store ought to be able to do that for you. Is it a large or small disk? They arent hard to replace, just time consuming, considering all the assembling/dissambleing involved.
My grandfather manufactured disc-harrows for Ford Motor Company (his own design) and the 200 series was one of the types he manufactured. If possible can you post a picture of your disc? I have a lot of period brochures for his disc and illustrated parts diagrams with part numbers. Some parts can still be obtained through the Ford/New Holland dealers. Do you have sealed bearing or the greasable plain type?
is it a box bearing or a sealed roller bearing, if it is the box type it is a simple fix if you can find the replacement, roller bearing will require you to take apart the gang, and most farm machinery dealers can match up the bearing
Eprsplit; if you're still following this...
Sorry it took so long, things have been hectic.
It's not a very good picture I'm afraid, it's up against the back wall of my garage behind a big bandsaw until spring.
If you're still interested then, I'll try to get a better picture.
I usually strap the bucket [4-500 lbs.]of my fel onto it for extra weight when I use it.
Mark,
That is not a disc-harrow made by my grandfather but of some other manufacture, shame I was hoping I could help you out with parts and manuals. I don't reconize the style, maybe someone on here will reconize it.
It has a small plate on it that says Ford; but it could easily have been made by another manufacturer.
Most likely it was sold through Ford dealers here in Europe but ordered locally.
There are a lot of old Ford tractors still rolling around here, so they must have sold a few.
