hello everyone,
My name is Rob, and I'm currently restoring a 63-65 massey mf-8e that is in excellent condition. I have original brochures and documentation for it I purchased. As well I have an mtd fifteen hundred series with a gear drive, pre-dating the hydrostatic units I am guessing?? It is in excellent original condition, no restoration needed. looking forward to talking to everyone!!

Greetings from Pennsylvania.

Sounds like a nice pair or tractors. Be sure to post pics in the MF and MTD sub-forums.

Your 1500 gear drive tractor would be a 1972 model 960 and althought the gear drive models did pre-date the hydros by a couple years, yours overlaps hydro production. The top MTD tractors used 14hp engines in '71, 15hp in '72, and then 16hp in '73 and through the rest of production.

Thanks for the info Jim, I will post some pics today.. I'm torn as to whether I should paint the MTD or just leave it in its original patina that it has earned over its 40 years of service. Opinions on it would be appreciated.. I washed about 1/4" of oily grime off that preserved it well.
