I was given this little rascal about 10 years ago. I painted it John Deere green and put the stickers on it. I put a running 11 hp B&S on it, then the whole linkage broke off at the carb and I parked the tractor. Today I was at a friend of mine's shop, and he asked if I still had the vertical shaft tractor. To make a long story short he asked if I wanted the vtwin that "still runs" off his Poulan lawn mower that don't work any more. I'm usually available to take motors and tractors that someone wants to get rid of - especially if they supposedly work.
My question is - can someone id this for me?
I searched the ST8 under google search and came up with this:
"In 1976, Sears began to sell what they labeled a garden tractor, which was produced by the Murray Company. They were called ST/8 and ST/10 in 1977, model numbers 502.25900 and 502.25910. While these machines were not made by the Roper Comany, and are not technically included in this database."
i think that may be an old sears, like an ST8,ST10,etc.i have an ST8 parts tractor here now and although its rough,it looks like yours,if thats the case i think it may be a roper.
Yeah, I believe its a Sears as well, I have a couple of them sitting in my old orchard.
I thought all the old Sears where Ropers?
I also believe that rear is not stock, either the axle's been swapped out or the wheels (wheels and tires look to be Bolens) and hubs has been, it doesn't look right in comparison to the front wheels and the size of tractor?
Fellows, don't pay any attention to the tires. They are just some I had lying around and I put them on it to move it around. The ones on the front are too wide - they are hitting the axle.
By the way - the free v-twin Intek won't work in the tractor. It's too long and too wide after I took the old Briggs 12hp out (it didn't come in the tractor either).
I'll probably get a little 4 to 6.5 hp single to put back in it at some point. I don't have the funds to play with it right now. Back to the corner it goes.
