Hello all. I have a problem with my MTD riding mower (model no. 13AI608H062). It has a single speed transaxle with variable speed pulley. This problem started after a spring (tying double idler pulley to the transmission idler pulley) broke.
I ordered a correct new MTD spring. Installed it then went cutting but the speed of the mower is much slower than before. There is no slipping (it climbs hills fine). If I really push down on the pedal really hard its speed increases close to normal speed.
Could the belt stretch instantly when the spring broke? I don't think so. But the belt seems to be really loose even when pressing down on the pedal. I have no idea what is normal in regard to how loose the belt should be.
Could the problem be related to the variable pulley? How do I check this
pulley for normal operation?
Okay, I just removed the variable speed pulley and it looks fine. Same for the belts. The pulley slides and rotates smoothly. So that rules out a problem with the variable sp pulley.
I took a pic of the idler pulley arm with a new spring put on. Is there anything missing? Perhaps there should be another spring from the transmission idler pulley to the tab at the rear just under the transmission pulley? My manual is not clear on what springs go where.
Please disregard the belts in the pic. They are off the pulleys.
Any help is appreciated.
