Thanks for an informative post.
You pay atention to details. I never noticed the difference in the shade and color of Combs.
I'll check into that tomorrow though.
Here's my double comed Rooster.
I discovered today, our Pet Chicken has been laying. She hid the eggs behind some Hedge growing in her pen. I got four out of there and they are nearly adult sized and not deformed at all.
I think my Rhode Islend Red is sick. I noticed her sitting on the floor all day today. I'll get her out from the rest of the Chickens tomorrow.
On that feed: I was suspicious the Feed guy was pushing Starter. I'll get Grower or laying mash later this week. I buy from a Co-op to help the rest of us out, and I get a little bit of a price break .
We had a place near DeRidder LA and raised Chickens for our freezer. We gave the hens to our friend. She has some that are 4 years old and are still laying pretty well.
A few years ago I was given a huge Rhode island Red Rooster. My Teenaged boy put him in the pen with the hens and the jumped right on them.
The Boy named him "Harvey Chicken banger", after a popular drink at the time.
