Life Time Membership Poll

Hello to all

There have been some inquiries about whether or not it would be possible to have a lifetime membership here on MTF. This poll is to see how many users would be interested in such an option if it were created.

I want to emphasize that the results of the poll won't mean for sure it will happen or not. I'd still need to pass it up the chain of command for approval.

If you have any comments or questions about what it would/should entail, you can post them here too.

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

the cost of the membership should b calculated on the age of the member.. this would b a more desirable way to do it & may attract more people.. (male or female of any age..)

I got to hand it to the MTF staff.. is dosen't matter if a gal or guy of age 15 but she or he can still VOTE here.. 2 thumbs up for that..

BTW.. I cast my vote too..

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

Not sure how I could vote without some indication of price. I will say I am interested, but might be constrained by the fiscal commitment

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

The term "Lifetime" is a bit of a catch for me. People's interests are transient.

Just in the small corner of MTF that I inhabit, I have seen many people enter enthusiastically and post regularly, only to have their situation change, and they quietly disappear into the sunset.

If it was free, with a drop back anytime feel, it probably would be accepted, but paying ahead for what is just your current hobby, probably would not go over so well.

I do however feel members who have been paying their dues and supporting the forum with their posts all along, should be granted a lifetime membership with say, their 10 yr badge.

Just my CDN. nickles worth and i have not voted until a little more detail is available.

Thanks for asking Folks.

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

Couple of observations/questions.
First of all, just wonder what percentage of members are actually paid Site Supporters?
Would this number increase or decrease w/ lifetime subscription?
Seems this question comes up on a regular basis because some members have problems trying to renew their supporter status, whether using a service like Pay Pal or some other means. Is there something that can be done, automatic reminder sent to member month before end date?
The determining factor would be cost. Doubt it is a big money maker for VS. As we know sites make their money being able to peg advertising rates to the number of page views, or other metrics that display the popularity and use of the site. Therefore it seems that the LT supporter rate would be reasonable.
And of course there's always the what if factor. What if VS sells the sites? What happens to the life time when a new owner takes over?
There are probably more questions to consider but I'm just pointing out that it's not as simple as offering Lifetime status. Just my 02.

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

our subscriptions do remind users that their supporter status is up...well theoretically it should. Paypal is the one that sends emails to users letting them know that the payment is up, this forum didn't set the payment up so that subscriptions would be auto-renewed so it's up to the user to renew on their own.

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

More info would be nice, but I still don't think I would get a life membership. I'm too old and money is too tight. As a younger man, old enough that my life situation had become somewhat stable, and I had a decent paycheck coming in, I would have considered it, though.

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

Thanks for all the feedback. I can't speak with authority at what the cost would be, but the benefits of a Lifetime would be the same as the current Supporting Memberships, ie. More options for customizing your account, increased message storage, access to VIP section etc.

As for what would happen if we sold, well I can say there is no plan on the horizon for us to do so (we like you guys) but in that hypothetical situation, how it's gone for sites that we have bought was they were honored and nothing changed.

Yes.

I don't always post on the internet. But when I do, I prefer MTF.

Re: Life Time Membership Poll

I don't think age should make a difference. I think that would be classified as discrimination. I understand that a younger member would potentially get more years than one of us older members for the same amount of money but if it's all about the total amount of money the site can get from a member, then there's no point in bothering with a lifetime membership - IMO.
However, I do like the idea of granting a lifetime to someone who has been a sponsor for a specified number of years.
I think this makes it more of something that can be earned or awarded rather than purchased.
Newsman also makes a good point about the site being sold and how that might affect lifetime memberships.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be interested, depending on the details. But even if it never happens, I still plan to support this awesome site on a yearly basis if that's what it takes. The $20 a year is a mere pittance compared to the value I glean from this site - not to even mention the camaraderie. Possibly the best $20 I spend all year!

I am not a Pay-Pal member, so I assume no notifications for me. I am good with the yearly membership and the awards when earned. It would be nice to have the membership expiration show in the user cp.

Larry, Go to the user CP and click on Paid Subscriptions, it has the start date and expiration date of your premium membership.
