Steve, hopefully you have it figured out, but if not, the temporary pw does not follow those rules, but your permanent pw has to.

Re: Attention - Password and Security Update

I am TERRIBLY disappointed in this forum! Why did the change password happen in the first place? Plus the fact the reset password did NOT work until a day and a half later. AND there was no response to direct email inquires as to what was going on.

In addition there was nothing posted on the forum site about password issues that I could see until just a few minutes ago.

Terribly disappointed!!!

Social media is a cesspool of questionable human behavior.

Even duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound!

The biggest lie I tell myself is "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."

Re: Attention - Password and Security Update

Yes, what was the cause of the original mass password reset? Did the site get hacked and the accounts compromised?

Also, the automated mass e-mail did not actually arrive at my account. I checked spam and inbox and it never arrived. I always get topic reply notifications and I got the e-mails from manually resetting my password myself this morning, but nothing from yesterday. So your system must have had problems sending them out.

I'm a new guy here, but I believe, "your house, your rules". That said however, I never got an email (gmail account), got myself locked out not once, but twice-how embarrassing! I consider myself somewhat forum-savvy, but it took me roughly 3 hours to get back in...

APinNY,

Well, I FINALLY got it taken care of. I don't mind having to change things like passwords, BUT, it would have been nice to have SOME notice about it ! ! ! Is there some reason that we were NOT given at least 4 hours before the reset?? I'd REALLY like to know.

Re: Attention - Password and Security Update

Everybody read the notice at the top of the page. How many accounts do you think MTF had to update? It is no wonder that many service providers saw it as unusual activity and blocked the site. I would imagine that included Comcast. I also imagine that it is not MTF that insisted on the password strengthening, but their hosting facility.

Still, poorly handled. Not enough notice, and it seems like the plan to send out the email notifications and update everybody at once suffered at least moderate failure.

You haven't even made one post per month since you joined, but now it's a life and death deal that you couldn't log in for a few hours?

Take a step back and look at the big picture; it'll be ok.

---------------------------------------------

It could've been handled a lot better, but things could be worse. It's a VS thing, not an MTF administration thing, so there's no need to throw the volunteer staff members under the bus.

fwiw (in case others are reading this and having issues), the password reset wouldn't work for me last night, but I tried it again today and it worked instantly just like it's supposed to.

Re: Attention - Password and Security Update

As mentioned the Moderators and Admins are trying to work through this as best possible. Please keep in mind that we were affected by the same issues and are still working on getting some of the moderators back online (so it was global, it took me almost 2 hrs to get up and running this morning).

Thanks for working with us everyone. We are working or at least trying to get some resolution and answers!

Re: Attention - Password and Security Update

When I logged on this morning I thought it was a MOD messing with me!!

Then I saw yesterday's post ~5pm.. A little more notice could have helped the confusion immensely.. The swift implementation of this security enhancement will only hurt for a while.. Things are back to normal in my lil' slice of the WWW.. At least I didn't have to post an intro!!

Experience is something we get.... right after we needed it!!

Re: Attention - Password and Security Update

Our apologies for those who had a hard time getting back online. Our emails, including those for password reset, weren't so much getting blocked, as they were getting "Throttled". A better explanation is in the announcement notice at the top of the page.

If you hear from anyone not getting the original password reset email, tell them to either use the "Forgot Password" link when trying to sign in, or use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to contact admin directly.
