john deere hydraulic pump issues

i have a jd 2520 that we restored a couple years ago. we installed a reman hyd pump. the other day i pulled into a field to rake it and the motor started to labor and the tractor quit and it started leaking hyd oil at the hyd pump. we were busy and just switched tractors till we got it home and took a look at it. the control valve for the pump has a crack in it in line with the valve with the screen in it. i called jd and the company that rebuilt the pump and neither one has ever seen a problem with these control valves. any one see this before?? sounds to me like the valve was making the pump pump oil when it didnt need it and the pressure cracked the valve.

[QUOTE=fspring;2224393]the control valve for the pump has a crack in it in line with the valve with the screen in it.

Are you referring to a CUT or rowcrop??? If rowcrop please explain which valve with screen in it you're referring to. Did you check/adjust stand-by pressure to 220 when pump was installed??????????

Re: john deere hydraulic pump issues

its a row crop. the valves are on the front side of the pump. they are supposed to control when the pump actually pumps. we went by the book on system pressure, but i dont recall anything about standby pressure. its never bothered since we installed it. the pump from what i can tell is actually a 3020-4020 pump. and as you stand in front facing the pump its the left valve that is cracked.

Re: john deere hydraulic pump issues

Your tractors pump fits many tractors besides 3020/4020 including 2520's when they were shipped from the factory. Which parts key # is cracked???? LH front bore valve is the stroke control valve and I don't remember seeing one cracked during my 21 years working at a JD dealership. In fact a New 2520 rowcrop was the first NEW JD tractor I ever sold.

Re: john deere hydraulic pump issues

I can't say I have ever seen one of these crack. The valve in the bore witht the screen is the crankcase outlet valve. That is #11 & 13 in TxJim's diagram. I am wondering if that valve seized up and caused too much internal pressure. Does the two parts of the valve slide freely in and out of each other? If they are free, then maybe it was never adjusted properly. It is adjustable with shims, #19. The only way to adjust it properly is with a special tool that your dealer should have. I can't remember the tool number off the top of my head for sure, but it may be JDH15c. If all that is correct, then the stroke ccontrol valve in the other bore might have been adjusted too high as TxJim suggested, the standby pressure should be set to 2200 - 2250 psi adjusted by screw #37.

Re: john deere hydraulic pump issues

Thanks jd110 for correcting my typo of 220 instead of 2250 psi for stand-by pressure.

Re: john deere hydraulic pump issues

the casting that cracked is casting # R42663. i can get a used one for 125 bucks. i just want to make sure that the problem is that part and not something in the pump it self. my jd dealer wants to see it monday.....
