2135 Massey Ferguson power steering problems

Thanks first to all who help out so much with this site. I am new to the site and am not even sure if Iím posting in the best place or even the correct place so please help me with that as well if Iím in the wrong!

So... We purchased a well used MF 2135 with what appears to have a MF 200 loader attached to it. My dad and I purchased it a few weeks ago knowing it would need some work and so we have begun. Doing all the work ourselves so far we needed to change all lubes and filters, Engine oil, Hydraulic oil, fuel filters, Power steering... They bypassed the original fuel pump and put an electric one which we pulled back off and everything fuel wise worked perfect. Not one gauge was hooked up and/or worked so we replaced all those as well. We replaced the fuel sending unit (this isn't working yet, but we'll get to that later). generator was bad so we replaced it with an alternator. We pulled the radiator while flushing the system and decided it would be wise to have it cleaned and tested, sure enough it leaked bad so we replaced that as well. Also replaced the exhaust system seeing how the whole system was rotted out.

In a nut shell, we just started it back up yesterday and it sounds great! We new when we purchased it the power steering wasn't really working and now we are attempting to resolve the issue. We opened up the pump and found an extremely clogged filter, we replaced the filter and cleaned the pump. There really wasn't much to the pump, it looks really good, the gears are in perfect shape and the needle bearings looked solid. We put it back together with hi hopes of having the power steering fixed but unfortunately when we finally got it all up and running we realized it really didn't get any better.

Basically it seems like there is no power steering in either direction. We used the loader to take the weight off the wheels and of course it turned a heck of a lot easier but with the wheels on the ground...not so good. Could someone please point us in a more specific direction for what the problem could be.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Re: 2135 Massey Ferguson power steering problems

first I would remove you tie rod ends out of the spindles lift the front end off the ground and see if you spindles move freely if they dont they were not greased regularly and will have to be removed and cleaned and probly need new bushings seals ect. if they do move freely then you will need a 2000psi gauge and a shut off valve plumb gauge and shut off valve into the presure line of power steerig pump and start tractor close valve only long enough to get reading should be 1100 psi if not pump is at fault and need to be rebuilt or replaced.
hope this helps Jared in Colorado
