Well I've been always eye balling generators for a few years. We live in the country so power loss happens quite often. Expecially during the winter months.

So a few weeks ago in upstate New York. We where in the high 60's and less then 12 hours it was a brisk 20 degrees snow, with high winds up to 45-50 mph gusts. That Sunday the wife called me at work at 1pm and said we lost power. While at work the temperature was already starting to drop quickly. At 6pm when I left work still no power. So I decided to stop and grab on of the smaller generators they sell.

So quite honestly I really wanted to get a 8000 watt, but this was one of those unplanned purchases before the holidays. I grabbed the wheel kit as well filled up with gas on the way home, also stopped by a friend's house to fill the oil and assembly of the wheel kit.

The unit itself was vary simple to get going out of the box. It started on the first pull. We ended up not having any power for over 24 hours. The unit ran the entire time no oil consumption and about 6-7 gallons of gas where used. Items running during this time where my pellet stove, refrigerator, fishtank pump a few lights and charged the cell phone. Handled all tasks well the refrigerator would absolutely make it work at initial start up draw. But was okay once running. Probably didn't help I had all this on one heavy duty cord. So at this time I'd give it a pass and ended up about 280 dollars. I know most fringe on the harbor freight name. But to be honest some of the others from big box stores I swear are from the same factory, just different name :dunno?

Yes those 2000 watt ones look pretty nice. I'm not saying everything harborfreight is a good value, but they seem pretty nice compared to the competition. I'd say key to any generator is the occasional starting every month. And not waiting until you've lost power and then try to start the unit after sitting a year or two without running.
