need a little Ariens history and info

There is a 1985 Ariens model 931019 near me for sale:

"this is a 1985 Ariens model 931019 tractor. it has front, center, and rear pto .. also hydraulic three point hitch on rear. this is a lawn tractor on steroids. currently it does not run as it needs a coil. these are available online for about 120 dollars. it will fire up with a new set of points and run for about a minute or two then points burn up and wont run. runs strong when ignition is working. its has 75lbs wheel weights on both rear wheels. seat is cracked/ torn and tires are a little dryrotted on the front. rear tires are in good shape and hold air well. included are the factory manuals and paperwork that came with tractor from original owner." It has a three point and deck. Has an 17hp series 2. Wants 600. Do these have power steering?

I don't know anything about Ariens. Can some one give me a little history on Ariens and this model?

Re: need a little Ariens history and info

My 88 GT20 has power steering and if I recall correctly all the Ariens GTs did. VERY solid tractors and mine has proven itself to be rather useful and reliable. $600 seems reasonable but I'd offer less since it's not running 100%. Deck looks like a 48" but I could be wrong. Parts have been easy to come by for me when needed. Heck I'd buy it just to have a second one in my garage and to have the 3pt factory hitch.

If that's a coil ignition, it just needs a condensor.. If it uses a Magneto, then It'll still need a condensor.. coil itself won't cook the points unless it somehow leaked voltage back down the primary from the secondary, and I just don't see that happening, cause it wouldn't run

Re: need a little Ariens history and info

I was thinking I would start a 400. I have an extra condenser on the shelf. Is there any place on the web I could get a manual? I love researching the GTs I don't know anything about and I know absolutely nothing about Ariens.

Re: need a little Ariens history and info

If you come up with a Serial number, I can check Ariens' records for ship and sales dates.

Owners Manual is at http://apache.ariens.com/manuals/030305C.pdf Tractor was also sold under the Gravely name as a 7173-H.

Current L/C count = 38.

I figured out how to get the manuals. I don't believe the 17hp tractors had power steering. Correct? You can not have something on the 3pt and on the front lift and use them at the same time. Right?

Re: need a little Ariens history and info

Not all had power steering or even a rear pto. I don't believe you can do a front and back lift at the same time because you have a switch from front and mid to rear but I could be wrong.

Re: need a little Ariens history and info

On the GT20 the front and mid lifts work at the same time. IE they are both up or both down. The rear works independently via a lever on the left side of the tractor. I currently have my rototiller on the rear and dozer blade on the front and use them back and forth.

You can run both pto's front and rear at same time but not lift.
