I just recently learned that my transaxle has a drain/fill plug, so I decided that after 12 years it was time for a fluid change. I snapped a few pics, in case anyone wanted to see how it went.
To change the gear oil, you have to drop the transaxle out.
The drain/fill hole is located on top of the tranny next to the gear selector. Here is a pic of the hole with the plug out: (the tranny is wet because I tried cleaning some of the grime off)
The drain plug was a little stubborn to get out. Here is a pic of it:
Basically, you just have to turn it upside down to drain the oil. The old oil was pretty dark, as you can see here on my finger:
The manual calls for 16 ounces of 80w90, so that's what I put back:
I noticed that it was pretty nasty around the brake too. Here is the before pic:
