cub cadet fuel pump question

I have a 3205. It ran fine the other day while mowing a yard. Parked it. Went to start it today, and it acts like no fuel. Battery is fine, and cranks good.

I finally hit it with starting ether, and it started just briefly.

I filled it with gas, and the air cleaner is good.

Are there any problems with fuel pumps on these?

Don't know the engine that well. It could have a mechanical pump only oir an electrical.

You could take the fuel line off the carb, stick it in a jar, spin the motor and see if there is any output...

I'd pull the spark plugs and re-connect the plug wires and verify you have a strong spark when cranking. Also see if there is any gas on the plugs or if they are dry.

Assuming plugs are dry and you have good spark, I think I've read here about fuel shutoff solenoid problems. I honestly don't know which models this applies to, so you ought to do a search here for fuel solenoids and see what you find, but I thought I'd mention it as a possibility.

Some have a mechanical fuel pump built as part of the valve cover.
DO NOT install an electric fuel pump in one of these engines.:Stop:
You either have one thats failed......ez to check or your fuel shutoff solenoid thats part of the carb is stuck and or malfunctioning.
If youre not handy with tools....take it to a kohler dealer.

My engine is two cyl, liquid cooled.

my valve covers don't seem to have the pump arrangement.

My parts manual shows the fuel pump as being a separate electrical thing.

I can take the fuel line off the carb and see if the pump is delivering fuel. If it's not, where is it (front or under seat)?

On my 3206 the original pump was no longer available, requiring the valve cover to replaced as part of a kit. On a newer 3100 this may not be the case. A quick call to Cub Cadet should resolve the issue.

In any event, it is an easy repair.

My bad rBig....
I've run into this before on 3205 and 3208. Some (actually most) have TWO fuel filters. Hitch is they're not on the parts list. One up by the engine (thats a kawasaki one,its on partslist) and one under the seat area in the fuel line.

Like mentioned above, follow the fuel lines. BTW If they're too old,replace the fuel line, they deterioate on the inside and may look fine on the outside. Little pieces of black stuff in the fuel filter is a clue.

It does already have an electric fuel pump.....remember the wiring diagram we sent you? You should hear it "turn on" when you first turn the key one to start it.

The problem is what a dumb *** I've been. First, I suspected fuel supply. That checked out OK. Then, I thought about no spark. Tested it first with an outside wire tester. No spark. One guy here sent me the process to check out my igniter. I used inline spark testers, and it was firing. . I took the carb off and took it to a good friend who showed my how to clean it. Big thing here: he said the gas in the thing was no good.

I had just filled it from a can. Once I knew what to look for, I found the whole fuel tank had bad fuel. I dumped it out, and put new stuff in. The carb went back on. Broke a choke cable. Went ahead and started it anyway. Thing mowed great. Basic dumb *** stunt.

jfl1946 - disconnect fuel hose at carb. using appropriate catch container and sprk plug wires removed from plug, crank engine. Should see a good stream of fuel being pumped into catch container. If not, suspect bad fuel pump. If flow good, suspect trash/etc in carb or afterfire solenoid stuck closed.
