EZ VAC Restore

I started working on my ez vac model 70 restoration. This is the 8HP version, the big one! The engine purrs like a kitten so all I am doing is taking off the periferials, changing fuel lines, filters, oil, clean degrease, prime and paint. Her is what I have so far. Once the engine is complete I'll start on the trailer and sides. This should be a pretty straight forward restoration. I'll update as I move along.

Re: EZ VAC Restore

Here are a few more pics. From all the paint I could find on the starter and starter guard it was gold so that is what I went with. Looks good even if not the right color.

Re: EZ VAC Restore

I'm not liking the red tank straps. They may come back off and go with white or black. I'll have more pics soon now that it is all back together. Next will be all the blower tins and mounting supports.

Re: EZ VAC Restore

Ed, Does the blower and engine mount onto the rear of the tractor or tongue of the trailer?

I made a special adapter that goes onto the tractor, mounts on the transaxle tabs. Then this engine and mount assy hang off of that and the trailer connects onto it. I'll post some pictures of the mount. It came from a Bolens 1600 so I needed to modify it to work on my tube frame. Stay tuned for some pictures.

Re: EZ VAC Restore

Ed, I have an EZ-Vac mounted on one of my 1256s.

Would you like for me to post pics of what that mount looks like?

If you look at that black adapter it is the one that came with the 1600. The base was a home made piece that I salvaged from another tube frame that someone made. It hooks to the transaxle tabs using the 1/2" clevis pins. The uprights were some scrap that I cut and welded in place. The horizontal piece connecting the two uprights is the original Bolens ez vac mount. I cut it off of the old base and welded it in place on the uprights.

Now, the white engine base rests in the two uprights in those little slots. Then there is a 3/4" bolt that connects the white engine base to the black base. Then on the white base there is another tab with a 1/2" hole where the trailer receiver connects. If you look closely on the white base you will see the 3/4" bolt on one end and the 1/2" hole on the other end for the trailer. It took a bit of time to get all the measurements correct but all in all it is a pretty good setup.

Looks good Ed.

Here's what the original mount for a tube frame looks like when it's mounted on the tractor.

Hi Old Buzzard, you were kind enough last year to send me a lot of pictures and even some literature on this. I thank you for the pictures. I did use your pictures as a guide when I built my base. The only original piece on my base is the thing with the slots in it. I'm anxious to have it done and see how it works. I wonder if I can get the decals that went on the blower. The previous owner painted over them and I could not restore them I tried.
