1250 broken shift lever

The shift lever was broken out of the shifter sleeve assembly, leaving a ragged hole in the sleeve. Part is NLA at Sonnys. Anyone have a parts tractor with that piece available? Or, what is the diameter and length of the rod? Thinking of welding a cover over the sleeve and then welding a nut on it to receive the shift lever. Suggestions appreciated.
