Lawn Boy R7268 restoration :)

Seasons Greetings! A few weeks back, Yard Nazi and PeoriaMurph were ever so kind to give me a really nice 1980 Lawn Boy R7268 (Thanks again!). After seeing it and receiving it, I have decided to fully restore it. I have created this thread to keep track of the process for all Lawn Boy lovers to see. I look forward to hearing from you! Enjoy.
As of today, (12/26/16), I have drained the gas tank, and replaced the primer line.

Looking forward to the progress on this one. Just to clarify, Murph donated the mower along with two others and I transported them back to the Quad Cities along with some additional parts. Riley is going to take one or two more this spring. Bill

Re: Lawn Boy R7268 restoration :)

Thanks Bill! As for the R7268, I was able to finally get it running. I cleaned the carburetor, and there was enough water to flood the Mississippi! Okay, maybe not that much, but, you get the point. It does run, but it runs rather slow. I will need to adjust it, but it does run well. Very happy!

That's great to hear. Murph did say that it was a runner. Does that one have the round adjusting collar on the air vane or the hex one? Let me know if you need to borrow a tach. Bill

I have NO idea how water would have gotten in there -- those have been in the basement for quite some time. The miracle of condensation I suppose. I believe that carb had the hex adjuster.

I'm very happy to hear the restoration commences.

It's good to see young people taking interest in old things.
Alot of our earlier technology was beautifully crafted, and shouldn't be forgotten.
Good luck with your restoration. Hope to see pictures.

Re: Lawn Boy R7268 restoration :)

Thanks for the encouragement! I have not had too much time to work on it, but I am beginning the deck work. The deck itself is in really great shape, so I will probably just touch it up with Grabber Green paint. I still would like to find a mulch plug for it, as well as a bag. I will hopefully get some pics up soon.

Yes, it would be the hex. Did not see an adjustment collar when I worked on it. Will have to double check to be sure though.

Those hex collar carbs are a bit different to adjust. You have to raise the hex collar up and then turn it and set it back on the splines. Counterclockwise to increase RPM. Preset is 1/2 turn if lever is on high or 1/4 turn if lever is on low. Each spline is about 50-75 RPM. Adjust with engine off. Start, run, tune altitude needle 1/2 turn out from best running, and check RPM. Shut off and adjust as needed. Round adjustment collar is the opposite direction for adjustment for reference. Bill

Thanks Bill! That might be tricky. Is there any link for a how to, or another thread on this? Sounds complicated.
