Finally got my edger home.

About a year ago I had my brother in-law pick up an edger from me that I found on Craigslist in his area. Finally the wife and I made it up to Waco and picked it up.
Initially because of the dowel rod on the blade guard it was thought to be an ET1 that had the front wheel added.
That and the brother in-law said it said ET1 on it.
After getting home with it tonight I am unable to find a model number, so I got out the Lawnboy book, and I am leaning more to it being a 1010.
Haven't checked for spark yet but I turned it over by hand and the compression seems just fine.
If anyone can help with a positive I'd it would be helpful.
Here are some pics.

This is when my brother in-law picked it up.

The shroud looks just like the one on a 1010

The ET1 shroud has less holes and the hump is on the opposite side.

Model and serial number on engine.

Sweet edger Lee! Looks like the ET-1 did not have the toothed adjustment bar like the newer edgers. I think you are on the right track with it being a 1010. Someone may have replaced the guard with one from an ET-1. If you are going to refurbish it I would just grind off that axle rod before painting. Not hurting anything but doesn't go with a 1010. Re: Finally got my edger home.

Very nice! Yes the model 1010 seems to be correct to me. I'm really looking forward to seeing this one progress. They are nice to look at when original, but it's a whole new ball game when they have fresh paint and new decals. Thanks for posting the pics Lee!

Re: Finally got my edger home.

Been looking for a recoil assy for it this morning on eBay. No luck so far. Did see a coil and order it just in case.

Nice Looking machine Lee
If Old Lawnboy doesn't find that used recoil let me know. I've got one you can have. Mine has the iron horse logo/embossed on it though as that was standard in Canada. If you want it let me know and it's yours

Re: Finally got my edger home.

Thanks, Bill and ReedZ.
I will see what Bill has as I would like it to be original. But if he doesn't have one I would use one with the Iron Horse logo until I could find an original.
Lee.
Also looks to need new handle grips and a choke rod.

Re: Finally got my edger home.

Well, I had a great week! Work sent me on an emergency job in Las Vegas...finished up early on Thursday so I made a stop at Counts Kustoms, then today I got some edger goodies in the mail. Thanks Bill.

Re: Finally got my edger home.

Hey Lee, below is a link I found that looks good for finding grips for that edger. It looks like gripworks might of bought out Hunt Wilde and now selling those old classic grips. Just info for others here: Hunt Wilde made grips for the Lawnboy edgers and probably the old mowers as well. Hope this helps!

Thanks Rex,
I used the part # you gave me and ordered them from parts tree. It said they were compatible with 1010.
They were a bit pricey, but what ya gonna do...lol

Re: Finally got my edger home.

Well it appears that the original assessment was correct.
Today I started playing with it and found this.

So it seems I have an ET-1 that was converted to a 1010.
But now I lack the proper shroud to restore it as an ET-1
This being the case, I guess I will keep the upgrades.
Any thoughts?

Re: Finally got my edger home.

That's a toss up for me, but I think I would lean toward putting it back to an ET-1. I'm not at all up on these edgers, is the ET-1's color Terra Cota? And the 1010 is gold? If you go with the ET-1 does the rod on the blade guard get a hardwood rolling pin/wheel?

edit; disregard the question about the color of the ET-1, just looked it up and noticed it's gold and white as well. I think that shroud you have was throwing me off, it looks like a Terra Cotta colored shroud.

Re: Finally got my edger home.

Rex, yes the ET-1 would have the wooden roller on the gaurd instead of the third wheel. The problem is it has a different shroud that doesn't have the holes for the front wheel adjuster. It also has the hump on the opposite side.
The original color for both the ET-1 and the 1010 was gold.
I have dug into it a bit today and have found good and bad. I gave it a couple shots of MMO into the cylinder and slowly turned it over a few times to get it lubed back up.
Then I removed the tank which was full of rust. I have it soaking in vinegar now. After cleaning the points with some 400 grit paper, it has spark! Looks like everything in that area has been replaced at some time. The bad thing now is that the threads for the sparkplug are not good, which mean either a Helicoil, or a new jug are in order.
I gave it a shot of fuel in the plug hole but it never did fire.
Seems to have OK compression just by putting my finger over the hole.
