Re: Front Axle for GT6000
Thanks for your time.
I was at our local sears parts /repair place, a couple of weeks ago and they told me that it was NLA. Thats why I'm trying to see what you guys thought. After putting that AYP on the front of the number, I see a few places that have new ones for around $60 US, + shipping to Canada. The number changes up to a new one, and they explain that it replaces mine. This may mean a different manuf. or a better built product. Anyway, at least I know I can find one.
I just took out the old one this afternoon. Its made of 2 halves that are put together like a hollow chocolate Easter bunny. It has a flange all the way around the circumf. that is spot welded every few inches. A couple of welds gave way and allowed the left end, about 4 inches, to bend back towards the deck. When it bent, the one outside shell cracked. I'm going to give it a go and fix her up. I'm sure I can bend it back into shape by heating with a torch, mig welding the crack back together, welding the spot welds back up, and put a couple of re enforcement plates on the outer halves.
The worst thing that could happen is that it breaks again and I have to buy a new one. At least I know where to find one.
Thanks Bill, if I have anymore problems, I'll be sure to post them. That AYP sure helped out.
