Re: 8XL deck belt keeps coming off idler...
I have check and all the pulleys seem to be pretty well in line and the keeper is in place, yet it keeps popping off, any ideas?
The idler pulley pivot pin often lets the pulley go off kilter when it snugs up the belt,if the bushing for it is worn egg shaped--I've had to replace the bushings in my tractors to prevent that....also on one,the pin was worn,so I cut it off the bracket and welded a 1/2" bolt there instead--now I can double nut the bolt and adjust all the side play out,you cant do that with the crappy original pin setup that has only a cotter key retaining it to the bracket..(which is the worst part to get at on the whole tractor,IMO!)..
If the idler pulley seems OK,no slop in the brackets,I'd check the other "main" idler in the center of the tractor, ensure its bearing is good ,no slop, and the belt guides on that pulley are intact and in the correct position, and there is a gaurd on the transaxle pulley too--ALL the pulleys need to be in alignment, sometimes the transaxle one gets warped or not pushed back on its shaft all the way, when a belt was changed..
