flywheel magnet..can it go bad?..get too weak to make the spark??

I have a question for you guys....I have a tiller with no spark...(I talked about it in another post)...but I am curious...can the flywheel magnet go bad?...I realize it could crack ...or get physically damaged...but assuming its intact...can it over a period of years grow weak??...and no longer produce spark??...

I have seen warnings from B&S to not hit the flywheel hard with a hammer or it might result in magnets losing their strength but I have never run across it actually happening.

You should be able to check the pull against a known good magnet. I didn't read your other post but are you sure the condenser & points are good? Condenser being the most likely culprit.

I have never see one go bad. But I have seen the magnet fly off the fly wheel.

The magnet is not a real permenant magnet. They will go bad if broken or chipped. If it holds a scredriver good then it's probably ok.Check the pick up gap and see if it's tolerances.Might be a bad pic up coil do you know if there is any resistance on the coil?

I got a kohler engine that wont spark...
If I put the coil in my coil tester it sparks but not in my engine.
Gotta be the magnet...
