Sears Suburban Mower Deck

I have the chance to pick up a mower deck and mule drive for my sears for 75-100 bucks in good shape. I was wondering if this is a good deal. Also how well do these decks cut.

Re: Sears Suburban Mower Deck

This is a shot of what my 42" does. They don't have the wheels on the corners like most seem to these days, so it will scalp uneven ground pretty easily, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Re: Sears Suburban Mower Deck

Mine does a good job, though maybe not as good as the 46" deck on my Yard-Man that has wheels and higher blade speed..its definately more rugged than the deck on the Yard-Man!..

There are a few different styles of Suburban mower decks, the one I got has the "sissors" type lift arrangement,I was told those came on the later models made in the 70's,but it fit my '67's and '68 by using the brackets that bolted to the tractor it was originally mated too,I had to get some off a later parts tractor for mine..You'd be hard pressed to find a Suburban mower deck here for less than 100 bucks complete,in decent condition..only seen one for 50 bucks a few months ago on CL--.

Re: Sears Suburban Mower Deck

I have one for my 73 Sears, and I mowed with it for many years. It tends to plug in wet grass, but otherwise cuts well. Mine has a reinforcing plate under the lift lever, where it started to tear from using the lift lever to bang the deck up and down to clear jams. If it's in decent shape, I'd jump on that offer. The more attachments for your tractor, the better, especially custom mounted attachments.

Re: Sears Suburban Mower Deck

Well i got the deck and some other stuff. I was loading up the deck when the guys like, do you need any other parts because i have the parts tractor in the garage. Im like yeah i need a seat bracket and a wheel hub because one of mine is cracked. So i got the deck and everything for 85 bucks. The guy only wanted ten bucks for the hub and seat bracket and a tail light. All in all it was a prett good day. Heres some pics. Their not very good because our barns dark inside.
Heres the deck with every thing else sitting on it.

the mule drive
