Default Dormer / 4th bedroom project taking shape

These are the latest pictures of my dormer / bedroom addition project at home...

I find it interesting to look back through some of the earlier stages of the project.
I had no idea of how much work I was taking on when I started this project last spring.

keweenaw,

Nice project. We've enjoyed your posts as it went along. Now it looks like the hard parts starts...what color paints to select!

Cheers

Thanks. The siding actually came next. What a tedious job putting up siding. I had a bunch of siding left from when we did the addition. Only had to buy a couple of parts to get this finished up.

Oh! you mean that isn't pink fuzzy wall paper? That really has been an extensive project. Do you ever think that it would be easier to just build from scratch. Course maybe your house has square corners, and plumb walls. I really appreciate all the work you have done on that addition.

Didn't you have to put in a new furnace last winter, or was that Slipshod? If it was you will it be able to handle the extra load?

We really liked the property & location. I wish we would have destroyed the 900 sq ft. house instead of adding onto it but what's done is done. Walls in old place are very much not sqare or plumb. It took a lot of crazy shimming to make it all appear to be that way and fit in with the addition.

This area which is now our 4th bedroom used to be a small bedroom off the back of the old house. It's window was blocked by the addition and over a 1/3 of it was turned into a hallway. The resulting mess sat there as unfinished space for 3 years while I decided what to do with it. When I started digging into the structure of it, I ended up demoing any remnants of the old house in that section out from under a very weakly supported double roof structure. I almost can't believe that it worked.

Now that it's 2600 sq.ft. we are still using the same furnace. It's a 55,000 btu Weil Mclain boiler with an 85% efficiency rating. Due to lack of insulation in the old house we were using as many gallons of propane / year to heat the house when it was 900 sq. ft as we do now that it's 2600 sq. ft. We might actually be using a little less.

Here are a few pictures of the outside after our first snow, and some of the finishing work inside that I have been getting done.

Carpeting should be here by first week of December.
