Lawn vacuum / mulchers- how much suction do they have?
These items are all over craigslist for decent prices. I know the primary reason is the homeowner just doesn't have a need for it or wants to deal with the labor involved when using it as a chipper/mulcher.
I'm looking to use it as a method to such up large shredded mulch (free) grind it up while discharging it in my truck bed. Can these lawn vacuum work on such or are they just for twigs and acorns? This free mulch is from a highway expansion project. Mixture of tree types shredder into 3-5" long slim pieces. I've manhandled 4 longbed truck loads already. Would like to get about 3-4 more free loads.
I'm looking at an 8hp snapper for 225.00 then need to buy the hose kit.

Sounds like you're talking about a walk-behind.. I used a much bigger tow-behind vaccuum for a similar "blow mulch into pickup" task and it didn't really work all that well, so I'd assume a smaller walk-behind will have an even tougher time of it.
Here's my thread on the experience. Worked, but very slowly, and did clog up quite a bit in the process. After all was said and done, I would have gotten the job done faster and with less effort if I just shoveled the mulch into a bunch of 55 gal trash cans and put those in the pickup bed.
Also it didn't really grind it up much.. came out the other end pretty much same as it went in. But I was ok with that because I wasn't trying to make it smaller.. just get it off the ground into the truck.
