Another thing to think about is how you have your ball mounted. I think that this could be a limiting factor.
My father had a custom rig that he made up that had a ball on it that could be pulled off to mount his vac attachment. It was made from some beefy steel. If you just had a ball in that metal plate that is stock I wonder if that would be the weak point. I don't recall how think that steel is. One thing that I have on my John Deere that I have grown to love is a front hitch. It isn't really all that heavy duty but it is a 1" reciever that I have a double ball mounted (2" and 1 7/8"). It is so much easier to move trailers around the property with that front hitch. If you can get one for a 318 or other models I would highly recomend it. Although if you have a model without power steering (318 has it) it may not work as well as the added weight on the front axle would make steering more difficult.
