Re: A couple tips on changing oil on an L series
i did a little reading on oil filters for briggs motors.i found that ph 8172 which is 2.7 inchs long or ph 3614 which is 3.4 inchs long is what most are using on their JD briggs/stratton. also the ph 4967 was rec but i did not look at that one.wix, napa, super tech ,fram tough guard,ac,purulator were 6 that was tested on quality of filters.
notice i did not list the fram others ,only the TOUGH GUARD was ok on material in fram line.
these are auto oil filters.i personelly for price and tests i read like the WAL-MART super-tech but now they are making them in mexico with plastic by-pass.that plastic by-pass is only ,in my opinion a problem if your oil changes went over like 7500 miles on auto, for lawnmower if you change oil/filter yearly,i change my oil 2 times a year and filter 1 time in my mower ,no problem i can see.
i think wix/napa/ac still put metal in their by-pass valves.
funny, i went to store looking for yugo filter which i heard fits the briggs and it was PH3614,same as those 2 i listed on what was used by others.
