Hey Gang,

started digging into my hurricane sandy victim today... P.O. stated that he and his buddy got the engine turning over ( not started ) and changed the oil several times once it was recovered from the storm. pulled off the front end to have a look....

Will be purchasing a portable jumper box, fortunately I have another 316 to swap parts out of to test. My goal is to get this tractor running if possible, take it home to use. Then rebuild the other 316. Once that is finished I will swap them out and restore this one.

I will be taking the electric PTO off before I try to get her started

Posted this in the WTB section.. figured I would add it here too..

I have a 316 that was submerged by Hurricane Sandy, looking for voltage regulator, ignition switch, and circuit breaker for now.. may need wiring harness, time control module, and solenoid also, but just trying to see if I can get it to run for now..

its the older B43E motor with the inline glass fuses and the solenoid that's NOT on the starter...

thanks in advance !!

Joe

Thank you! Not sure P.O. Believes it was.

Finally made some progress with this... Rebuilt the harness, replaced the plugs and points she turns over.... Had to jump the coil to get spark.... Sprayed some starter fluid down the carb and getting backfires... Think the valves may be stuck... Also leaking oil when cranking so looks like I'll be pulling the engine out to see what's up.....

Starting fluid is hard on the motor, just pour a little gas in and it will crank, what area of the motor is leaking

#9 ·
Biker, it's leaking down by the drain plug... I really can't see as the motor and frame are blocking my view.... I'll try gas tomorrow

#10 ·
Only leaks when it's cranking

Does it have an oil filter? If so its probably the oil filter adaptor.

#12 ·
Hey biker... no, no oil filter

#13 ·
Well it might be leaking out of the rear bearing plate, or the pto plate, the 2 bottom bolts holding the clutch onto the motor have direct access to the oil pan.

#14 ·
Thanks biker ... will update when I get the motor pulled

well.. finally got my hoist together and got the motor out of the 316 sandy survivor ..

got the engine tins off and looks like the oil is shooting out of the oil pressure switch ... so will be ordering one of those guess I need to pull the flywheel off to get to the stator so that will be next week job.

On another note I was inspecting the other onan I got in another 316 and I see that one of the front mounting feet is broken off... I found the foot lying in the frame... anyone have luck welding one of those back on ?

thanks

Joe

Any ideas.? Ty

Get another oil pan from Boomer, tough to weld there with all the oil around.

Biker.. thanks for the suggestion.. will have to get with boomer !

that being said... SHE LIVES !!!!! after pulling the tins last week I narrowed my major oil leak down to the oil pressure switch... I put the engine back into the tractor with the tins off and cranked her over.... sure nuf said oil pouring out the switch.. had another onan laying on the work bench so I was fortunate enough to be able to pull the switch off that... poured some gas down the carb and she fired up nicely !!!!!

so the other issue I can see is the wiring harness to the stator is ALL green from corrosion not sure yet if I should just replace the stator or test it first.... would hate to put it all back together and find it not to work...

#20 ·
At this point just replace it if you have one,p218 or B43?

#21 ·
B43... Was scanning eBay today...

#22 ·
That's better, you might just splice in new wires since it isn't electronic.

#23 ·
Will hook up some some fuel line and get it running for an extended period of time then I can test to see if it's producing current...

#24 ·
Grill emblem missing too :sidelaugh

#25 ·
Katt, its still in the package... keeping it nice n shiny till I put her all back together...
