Just picked up a 425

Hey everyone, I just joined the 425 club!! Really happy with the purchase, especially for the price. The tractor is not pretty but it runs really well, everything moves and works. It is rusty, but I can fix that up. I am planning on making a nice looking worker, I am going to needle scale the frame and clean it up. Hoping to replace the fender and foot pan. Have the rims sandblasted and powdercoated. Good coat of paint and then go from there. The other really nice thing is its a 2001, the dealer I got it from said it was a 1995. Special thanks to Bill (cementhead) for going with me to check it out.

NOW the fun begins...

The metal mesh on the side panels will come out easy by bending the tabs, just don't bend them too many times or they will break. Be careful handling the whole panel itself as they become brittle over time (Ask me how I know). Sand blast the mesh, a couple of good coats of paint and it'll do wonders..

She'll clean up nice. If you power wash it, be careful of the serial number tag if its still there, One pass and off it'll come!!

Re: Just picked up a 425

Thanks everyone, I have it somewhat torn apart already. It definetly was in the salt, I am spraying everything with PB blaster to free things up. I removed the fender deck and foot pan off and have to replace both, they are rusted up pretty bad. I found a foot pan on ebay already, and think I have sourced a rear fender deck. Gonna have the rims sandblasted and powder coated. I guess I will ask for a gallon of PB blaster for christmas.

Re: Just picked up a 425

I am trying to get the diff lock freed up because it is stuck on, I don't want to bend or break anything, if I need too, is it possible to get to it if I pull the rear cover off of the tranny? I don't want to do damage by forcing anything.

Thanks

Re: Just picked up a 425

It would probably be in the linkage and not internal.
Also do you have the park brake on?

When the parking brake is on the diff lock is engaged.

Re: Just picked up a 425

dan, thanks for the info, I didn't think of that, I will have to make sure the break is off when I am working it.
