LX188 Deck Height Adjustment

Need some guidance. My friend just dropped off a LX188 I purchased from him for $300 and need guidance how to adjust the deck height. I just scalped my lawn and the dial knob doesn't make a difference.

Do you have to set the deck wheels to a desired height also?

Have patience and explain adjusting deck height to a riding mower newbie.

Thanks in advance

Re: LX188 Deck Height Adjustment

The dial knob should make a differance.Lift the deck to the raised position.Dial in the desired height and lower the deck.The deck rollers should be about 1/4'' off the ground when set right.

Re: LX188 Deck Height Adjustment

Is rotating the knob an infinite adjustment in which I mean you can keep turning it many many many times like running a nut down a threaded rod?

Maybe I felt it didn't do anything because I didn't make enough rotations.

Thanks for the insight.

Re: LX188 Deck Height Adjustment

Sounds like there is a problem with the adjusting knob?There should be indicator height numbers on the knob.It should click at each setting.If the knob just turns something is missing.

Make sure that when you turn the height adjustment knob that the deck is in the transport position.

Re: LX188 Deck Height Adjustment

What manual is that in Paul? I need to figure out how to level my deck on my 188, and was wondering what manual has that info in it.

Re: LX188 Deck Height Adjustment

Kawiguy;
The Operator's Manual would be about the best or one of the best manuals you could purchase. It tell you exactly how to set the deck up plus just about any info. needed to get you by without getting to technical. To answer one of you questions, the deck wheels are suppose to be approx. 1/2" from the surface once the deck is set up properly but no riding on the ground all the time, just when you come to high spots are they suppose to be touching.
