One last sweep through CL this morning and spotted an ad that had been posted 17 minutes before. Utility trailer is behind two feet of snow and not coming out until spring if I'm lucky. Agonized for another half hour before I decided I had to call or regret it for the rest of my life. Talked to a nice guy who said I was the first caller. Set up a time about an hour later. My truck is not my daily driver and as such becomes a junk collector for the winter. Trashed my garage frantically throwing stuff out, pumped up one low tire and hit the road. Stopped at an ATM and looted a couple accounts. Might have been less than observant of the posted speed ordnances on the 45 minute drive to his house. Drove it about 10 feet and handed him cash. Sitting here in my garage wondering what to do next.
Wow, just wow. Send me your shipping address by PM and I'll get a good 3 hole pan seat, just pay the shipping. Send me a postcard when you are rich & famous.
Whatever you paid isn't nearly enough. I'd just ebay it after correcting a couple of things, then take a breather and tell your wife "I told you so!"
I'd say buy a lottery ticket, but you don't need one.
I'm as excited as you. I'd grab a magnet and check those fenders. Probably been replaced with steel. Never seen one of those. I would say don't paint anything, but by the ID photo, it's already been painted.
Minor detail.
You know that round fender sleeve hitch I have listed on ebay right now? I didn't think I needed to add "won't fit '63", but if they are just popping up on CL maybe I ought to.
Fenders are definitely fiberglass and in AMAZING shape for 47 years old. Gave them the fingernail tap test and no way they're steel. Gave them the magnet test with my nastiest magnetic pick up tool and they're good.
This is like a first year Corvette. (except neater) A lot of fabricated parts before they got it perfected & in production in 1964.
I haven't seen one sell so I don't know what they actually sell for now. I'd guess $4000+ but that's just a wild guess.
Quit showing more parts. We don't want to see them! (actually we do)
Hopefully he paid like $200. Any more for that rusty old thing and he paid too much. I would take it off of his hands just to save the steering wheel center though.
Well, you have your "once in a lifetime" deal! Congratulations, that is just awesome. I'm with ABC on this, just clean it up, keep it as original as possible and keep letting us drool over your pictures.
Also, please look at the underside of the hood. There may be some interesting text on it like "property of horicon John Deere Design Works Department" or something like that. Seriously though, look all around the tractor for weird text.
Underside of the hood has no markings - looks like it was sold at a dealer outside of Boston:
