John Deere L120 hydrostatic transmission

L120, 595 hours, meticulously maintained

The hydrostatic transmission is not working well. It has lost a lot of power and when it gets hot, after mowing .25 of .5 acres, reverse is virtually non existent and it slows down big time. Are there any fixes other than replacing it?

Would another model hydrostatic transmission fit this tractor and does anyone have one in good shape from an L120 or any other that would fit?

If the L120 body is able to be used without any serious mods and someone knows how I can put a manual transmission from another model onto this tractor, I would rather do that.

The guy that bought it didn't understand how a manual transmission works so he bought a model with the auto/hydrostatic transmission.

Thanks, Rick

Re: John Deere L120 hydrostatic transmission

Check out the stickies JD section loads of good info there on the K46 transmission. The L100 had a standard transmission if I remember right. You wiou;d probably ahve to get the entire tractor to change over. Loks like alot of different parts from the picture on the JD site.
