Help is using starter fluid and carb cleaner bad?

Hello, i have a jd z425 mower with a 23 hp ohv briggs
a month ago i had a fuel related problem, would start, run die over and over.
i asked you guys for help and got a couple ideas. i replaced the gas, filter,
all fuel lines and clamps, the little hose going to the fuel pump from valve cover,
and then the fuel pump itself.also the spark plugs, air filters, and oil.also checked gas cap vent-ok
it started and ran great, i mowed 3 or 4 times over two got very hot here like near 100 for over a couple of weeks. the mower and my full gas can, plastic with a lid, set in a lean too shed for a couple weeks not started. i went out yesterday and started it,it started ran alittle and it will not start. i checked the entire fuel system the pump is pumping gas is getting to carb. i have spark.will start and run with starter fluid just till it burns that. i had squirted carb cleaner into the fuel tube at carb last time.i am now told by jd service men that the needle valve pin is plastic, pickup tubes are plastic and rubber o-rings in carb can be ruined by carb cleaner, also starter fluid is very bad on engine.apparently my gas is going bad quickly and gumming up my carb?it is very difficult to get too this carb engine sets down in frame, and the carb and intake manifold have to be taken off to get to the bowl screws.does anyone have any experience with this and facts about use of these fluids? Thanks

Re: is using starter fluid and carb cleaner bad?

yes carb cleaner is hard on o-rings and the plastic ..I made this mistake myself once and had to replace the o rings and gaskets ...Brake clean will do the same thing ,,,Carb cleaner is meant to be sprayed down the throat of the carb while its running to remove carbon and gunk from it ..Its not meant to be sprayed on the gaskets or o rings and plastic on the inside of the carb
