Oil in Air Cleaner-316-Onan

I'm getting what I think is significant oil in the air cleaner compartment of my JD 316/Onan P218. Anybody know the fix for this situation? Thanks.

You could check "PCV" cover over the valve springs. It vents into your air cleaner housing. Not real sure if it vents from valve spring cover...been awhile since I looked at one. Anyway the small hose in the bottom of the air filter housing (about 3/4" dia) trace it back to the block. See if oil is coming up through there.

chudoc's idea may be the problem. There's a tube with a housing. Inside the housing if some filter media available from Deere. When the filter media is gone, oil can get pulled up into the air filter housing.

Another source of oil in the air filter housing is a rear main seal leak, valve cover leak, oil filter adapter plate leak, oil pressure sending unit leak - all sources for oil to get sucked up through a tube in the corner of the air filter housing, from the air flow into the carb.

Re: Oil in Air Cleaner-316-Onan

Stash and Chudoc, thanks for the quick replys. I was thinking the PCV was the culprit, too, but I didn't know about the filter media. I can see the clamps that hold the 3/4" tube to the bell-shaped part of the PCV housing, but I don't see how the housing itself is connected to the block. It looks like you have to get inside of this bell-shaped part to get into any type of valve. Any ideas as to how it is removed? Thanks again. I'll also inspect the other areas that Stash mentioned.
