What is the better option?

Hi folks,

I will be moving to a new place and the lot there is bigger than mine where pushing the mower will take me too long. I was originally looking at the x350 but then decided that if I want to eventually get a snowblower, I want the hydraulic lift and power steering. I was looking at the X370 and x390 but came upon a 2006 x595 with just over 1000hrs. It has a bit of wear and tear but other than that, it runs pretty good. The price asked for it is 6,500 CAD.

Before I go on, the yard is pretty straight leveled, and I won't be doing too much hard work with it except for the snowblowing part.

I was wondering if the x595 would be too much tractor for my needs and given it's age, if I am better off with a new x370/390 with the new Accel Deep deck. Or is the deal too good for the x595 and I should jump on that instead?

I am looking for you more experienced people to shed some light on my dilemma :tango_face_smile:

Any plans in the future putting in a garden? Is the log level? Does the lot have lots of trees raised flower beds? The main questions are you thinking of other things I. The future. I think personally if I were going from a small plot to bigger one to go with the X595 as it will do it better. Just be prepared to repair anything that requires it as you will not be with a warranty. If you do not plan that by all means the X390 will be fine

The lot is pretty straight leveled, no trees and it has s very small garden, not big enough for the need of a tiller. The only reason I was considering the x595 is the AWD for snowblowing and I heard so many good things about it's diesel engine. Also, to note, I would go for the 48" deck on the new tractor versus the 54" deck that is equipped on the x595.

I personally would go for x595 as the OP has stated the intended reason of better ability to snowblower with the AWD. Also it has a serviceable transaxle. But the cost of repairs will be more.

Never can have “too much tractor” having said that, I’d go with X390 for several reasons, the X595 is a beast and will last a long time, but it is 12 years old and 1,000 hours, you are more than likely going to have problems with it. I would really want to see a detailed maintenance record on machine. The X390 with Accel deck will mow the grass and maneuver on your small lot considerably better, the 390 turns much better than 595 and with only a ¼ acre I’d be worried about soil compaction with 595 as it weighs over 1100 pounds while the 390 is 600 lbs. You’d be doing a lot of backing up turning etc. Due to smaller size and much better turning radius you would mow the lawn much quicker with 390. Another advantage of 390 is no maintenance and repair worries with 390 as you have a 4 year warranty. Only thing the 595 would do better is snow blow and even that is relative. As long as your driveway is relatively flat the K58 in x390 will handle 44 inch snow blower very easily and again if you buy snow blower with tractor it comes with same 4 year warranty. with 1/4 acre buy the X390 and be set for next 25 to 30 years .

Awesome. Thank you for the information. It sounds like sound advice and I will keep this in consideration when I make my decision. BTW is the EFI on X590 worth the extra money? I know it has a lot more upgrades from the X390 but that would be the only reason I would step up.

I have a X590 and the EFI is really a good system. It is strange to start in the regard it does not matter where the throttle is, you just turn the key and it starts right up, there is no choke on this model. It starts just like a modern car you hear the electric fuel pump prime the fuel system and you start it right up. Also the throttle level is a electric switch no cable attached. There is no bogging down in heavier grass the electronics senses the heavier load on the engine and the governor kicks in and it powers right thru the area. It all depends on what you need and want.

Upstate Tony makes some very valid points. I will not offer a choice except to say that I would get the x595 over the x590. It's a different class of tractor and that diesel is just getting broken in.
