Those of you with the 48" decks, opinions needed

The 48" decks that work on the GT262, 275, I would like your opinions of this deck in terms of reliability and cut quality. I'm toying with an idea of one of these non-convertible decks...has the round gauge wheel posts and the metal belt covers, basically the sister deck to the convertible I believe.

I think I can get one to mount up to my 212, just curious if they are similar or superior to the 46" deck offered to the 200 series.

I agree the decks are very different....the 48 feels like it has twice the metal of my 46.

I've been searching for a good donor deck to try to modify, has been on the back burner....way back...lol.

I did find someone who had one on a 214 that works, only problem is it wouldn't raise high enough for me but would still cut at 3".

I could have modified it to work but that would require removing welded parts.

So I came home to ponder the thought and browsed ebay once more and found one newly listed, about 30 min from me and the deck looks almost new...with maybe 1 or 2 seasons of use.

I will pick it up tonight and start a thread on joining it to my 212. I'm pretty confident I can fabricate something, but will be a little tricky.

The top center pulley is in the way of the left lift strap but perhaps a removable cross piece might work.

Looking forward to this.

I have a 265, and it has a 48" deck. I don't know what a convertible vs non-convertible is, that's how the mower came to me this year.

I have a 318 with a 46" deck. Both are new to me, so history is unknown on both (including hours).

These two decks are not interchangeable, so I really am just giving you my opinion of the 46" and 48" decks I have.

46" -- spindles have 2 ball bearings per spindle. Can be changed pretty easily. They are sealed bearings, so no external seals. No lubrication fittings. ONE spindle assembly is over $300. However, I can't be sure I'm right on that, as I can't really FIND the deck on jdparts that looks like mine.

48" -- spindles have lubrication fittings, bearings have external seals. One spindle assembly is $121. For the 46" deck that goes on the 260, one spindle assembly is $189.

Also, those metal belt covers are rust waiting to happen.
